About us:
The Yanko is a family property running Stud Merinos, Commercial Merinos, and an Angus breeding operation. The property is located 25km from Jerilderie and runs across 15,000 hectares of native grassland. It has been family owned and managed for 48 years. The stud consists of 1000 Stud Poll Merino and Stud Merino ewes, with the commercial Merino flock of 6000 ewes. The Angus breeding herd is made up of 350hd. The property has 1000 acres cropped annually with oats and barley.
The Role:
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic person to join the team in undertaking all day-to-day operations. The right candidate will be given the opportunity for career progression within the business, reporting directly to the owner/manager. You will be working alongside two full time employees, one part time and seasonal contractors when required. The role includes;
- All aspects of livestock handling with both sheep and cattle – Mustering, animal health, drafting, recording of stud data, shearing, marking, and a yearly ram sale.
- General duties – Livestock water checks and maintenance (solar bores), fencing, and mechanical maintenance.
- Farming duties – Machinery operation, spraying paddocks, and weed spot spraying.
The property is well equipped with modern machinery, and good infrastructure with undercover main yards, multiple strategically placed yards, and laneways across the property for ease of mustering.
The Ideal candidate:
To be considered for this role, you should have most of the following attributes.
- Have experience with sheep and cattle.
- A good team of working dogs.
- Have an interest in stud herds.
- Attention to detail and good communication skills.
- The ability to work unsupervised as well as in a team environment.
- Current drivers’ licence.
- Honest, reliable, and self-starter.
- Basic record keeping.
- Chemical certificate.
The Offer:
There is an attractive remuneration package to be negotiated with the successful candidate based on their experience along with a comfortable 3-bedroom house with gardens and a work vehicle. The property is situated on the Yanko creek, ideally located 25km from the rural town of Jerilderie which has all services needed including two primary schools. The house is located close to the primary school bus route.
