Your Opportunity
As our team continues to grow, we have identified an exciting leadership role for a Technical Director in Environment to join us in our Sydney office. The role will build and identify new business opportunities, with a focus in the NSW Energy market and convert prospects into projects. The role will work closely with our Australian Environment leadership team setting the strategic direction and maturing our environmental approvals offering across our Australian business.

As a Technical Director in Environment, you will play a pivotal role in driving growth and business development in our energy approvals offering, with a focus on NSW. As part of our NSW Environment and Society portfolio leadership team, this role would also collaborate with senior colleagues to provide services across other markets including Transport, Defence, urban planning, and water.

Your key roles and responsibilities will involve:

• Leveraging existing client relationships and building new relationships to build and identify new business opportunities to secure environment and approvals work from key clients, with a particular focus on energy projects, including renewables and transmission & distribution in NSW.
• Collaborate with our market and account leaders to bring the best of Mott MacDonald to our clients.
• Leading multidisciplinary teams to deliver environmental impact assessments for major infrastructure projects across energy, transport, water and defence markets.
• Management of environment projects across the project lifecycle from proposal through to delivery on projects.
• Collaborate with interstate team members as part of business development and project delivery to deliver a nationally consistent client experience and quality.
• Contribute to thought leadership and promotion of environmental capability within the industry.
• Mentoring and guiding junior staff members within the environment team
• Ability to manage and coordinate relationships with sub-consultants to ensure successful delivery of major projects.

About you
You have considerable experience within the consultancy industry, working with multi-discipline teams on complex projects in NSW and beyond. At this level you can bring and establish long term positive client relationships in the Energy market and secure work from our current key clients.

We would love to hear from you if you have:

• a relevant tertiary qualification in environmental science, environmental engineering, environmental planning or similar.
• extensive experience in impact assessment and regulatory approvals for energy projects.
• extensive knowledge and experience of NSW and Commonwealth environmental legislation.
• proven history in identifying, winning and delivering projects.
• experience in a consulting environment with strong business development and client relationship skills. Deep industry connections working in consulting and the ability to influence and develop strong relationships, particularly in the energy sector and on renewable projects.
• Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate with people from the broader engineering, management, and development capabilities of the Mott MacDonald team.
