The purpose of this position is to lead operational input to regulatory business planning, strategic water treatment initiatives, capital projects, business development and research and innovation to proactively support the delivery of recycled water and wastewater services to the community.Key Responsibilities
  • Lead pilot studies and trials of new emerging technologies and operational techniques, including theoretical improvement concepts, to improve wastewater and recycled water treatment plant operations and performance.
  • Contribute effectively and safely to the team ensuring efforts are aligned toward achieving team goals
  • Identify operational efficiency opportunities to deliver budget savings (technical input into budget forecasts) and make recommendations to the management team.
  • Provide operational technical input into new business development initiatives (including operation of newly acquired assets)
  • Respond as part of a team to treatment failures and incidents
  • Provide Specialist Wastewater and recycled water operational input into treatment capital projects to ensure all operational risks and opportunities are considered through concept design, detailed design, tender evaluation and delivery phases of project delivery.
  • Assist with the development and review of operational and quality systems procedures relevant engineering standards.
  • Establish and maintain respected and valued partnerships with key stakeholders across SA Water, acting as the key interface for the team.
About the PersonAn ideal candidate will demonstrate strong technical knowledge and capabilities in wastewater and recycled water treatment, as well as a strategic and outcome focussed approach. As a technical subject matter expert within the Operations team, you will require a holistic and collaborative approach, logical thinking, analytics, strategic thinking, and a focus on operational business improvement, best practice, fit-for-purpose outcomes for the business, our customers and the community.To be successful in this role, it is necessary to demonstrate exceptional communication skills, having previous experience in routinely fostering, building, and maintaining effective and meaningful relationships with key stakeholders, both internally and externally.
  • Qualification in Engineering or Science or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in wastewater and recycled water treatment plant operations
  • Ability to analyse complex technical operational problems and determine appropriate solutions working under limited supervision
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills
