About the Role

The Parks & Gardens Branch is responsible for the care, management and operation of a comprehensive network of public open space and recreational areas which have been established for active and passive recreation for the community and the preservation of the natural features of landscape and environment along the Sunshine Coast, largely within the urban environment.

The Technical Officer will play a key role in the coordination and delivery of a jointly funded tree planting project between the Sunshine Coast Council and the Commonwealth government, demonstrating the ability to undertake project scoping including species recommendations, spatial location capture using FieldMaps and physically identifying locations for contractor delivery, inspect and accept delivery of nursery tree stock considering key characteristics as set out in relevant Australian Standards, guidelines and best practice, assist the Project Lead with preparation and delivery of contract packages, scoping and procurement schedules, ensuring compliance with project objectives, timeframes and accepted standards, lead contractor supervision, providing support and direction for associated planting and maintenance activities including key performance goals and processes for variations and review contractor payments including assessment of works completed, valuation of variations, processing invoices, monitoring, and evaluating site instructions and payments.

About you

You will be a team player with experience in a direct role delivering and maintaining efficient and effective day to day operation of horticultural, arboricultural, or landscaping tasks.

To be successful in the role, you would have demonstrated experience and ability to provide sound advice on plant selection and ability to coordinate the delivery and maintenance of operational and project based operations relating to horticultural, arboricultural, and landscaping functions.

Highly developed written and oral communication skills along with the ability to provide on-the-job support and the ability to organise people, materials, and time, in order to achieve the required outcomes.

Demonstrated understanding of Workplace Health and Safety requirements, Safety Management Systems and work practices in a parks and gardens work environment

As a requirement of this role, you will have a Certificate IV in horticulture or arboricultural with competencies relevant to the position or relevant demonstrated trade experience and thorough understanding of AS2303:2018 Tree Stock for Landscape use and AS4373:2007 Pruning of Amenity Trees.

You will require a 30215 Qld – General Safety Induction (Construction Industry) – White Card, possess an Agriculture Chemical Licence (AC/DC), and a current “C” class driver’s licence, a Light Rigid (LR), Medium Rigid (MR) or Heavy Rigid (HR) licence is desirable, however not essential. 

Essential to your success is physical agility and the level of fitness, strength and dexterity to carry out labouring and frequent heavy lifting & bending. As such, appointment to this position is subject to completion of a pre-employment medical assessment.
