About Us
The Faculty of Engineering and IT (FEIT) is large and complex with six schools, research centres, engineering laboratories, IT laboratories and a large technical workshop. In 2018, UTS Tech Lab came online, a university research facility encompassing significant engineering and IT laboratories, which establishes FEIT as a key research leader. UTS Tech Lab will enable the research outputs of FEIT to continue to grow and will offer our research leaders a greater opportunity to collaborate with peers across disciplines, schools and faculties as well as industry partners.
About the Role
The Faculty of Engineering and IT are currently recruiting for a Technical Support Assistant (TSA) to join the Faculty Technical Resources - Data, Electrical and Physical Sciences (DEPS) team - to support the School of Electrical and Data Engineering (SEDE) on a full-time, continuing basis. The Technical Support Assistant (TSA) is responsible for the operation of assigned laboratory equipment and facilities. The TSA will support and assist academic staff, undergraduate and postgraduate students in the use of laboratory facilities, and faculty staff associated with research and industrial projects.
The TSA will work across a number of different Technical Support functions at the City Campus and Tech Lab at Botany. The TSA is expected to demonstrate high operational flexibility and work across structural boundaries traditionally found in engineering, which requires a proactive attitude and a willingness to undertake training in new skills.
The TSA will assist maintaining equipment within their given area. This will require demonstrating professional knowledge and skills relating to laboratory equipment and providing ongoing support for teaching and research across the Technical Support team area. The TSA may help in the development of equipment for projects and support the use of equipment including new technology on commercially focused research projects, including consultancy work.
As the ideal candidate, you will possess:
1. Good written and oral communication skills in order to communicate knowledgeably with academics, students and industry collaborators
2. Demonstrated ability to initiate, plan and schedule work within required timeframes
3. Ability and willingness to proactively develop skills and competencies over a range of technical areas and actively apply these skills
4. Ability to work across structural boundaries and to assist in the development of new operating procedures
5. Experience in laboratory procedures and in ensuring health and safety and risk management practices are adhered to
Base Salary: $78,667 to $89,995 pa (HEW 5)
This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.
