Role Purpose and Summary
This role is a 6-month contract.
The Technical Underwriting - Underwriting Rules Engine (URE) Specialist is responsible for accelerating NobleOak’s URE implementation and optimisation. This position involves developing, implementing, and maintaining Underwriting Rules within the URE, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with industry regulations and NobleOak’s underwriting principles and risk appetite parameters. The specialist collaborates closely with Underwriting, Projects, IT, Sales, Claims and external stakeholders to enhance the underwriting process, contributing to the company's goal of optimising the customer experience.
Job Description
Key Accountabilities
Underwriting Rules Management:
Develop, implement, and maintain Underwriting Rules within the Underwriting Rules Engine (URE). Regularly review and update rules to align with industry standards, regulatory changes, and business requirements.
Collaboration with Underwriting Team:
Work closely with the Head of Underwriting and Underwriting team to understand underwriting guidelines and business processes. Translate any underwriting requirements into technical specifications for effective rule implementation.
System Optimisation:
Identify opportunities for URE optimisation and enhancement to streamline the underwriting process. Collaborate with IT, Project Managers and external vendors to implement system upgrades and improvements.
Quality Assurance:
Conduct regular audits and testing to ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of Underwriting Rules. Provide ongoing support to troubleshoot and resolve any issues related to rule implementation.
Documentation and Training:
Document Underwriting Rules, processes, and system configurations.
Provide training and support to underwriters on new rule implementations and system updates.
Compliance and Regulatory Adherence:
Stay current with industry regulations and compliance standards.
Ensure that Underwriting Rules align with regulatory requirements and company policies.
Key Responsibilities
Utilise knowledge and expertise in ensuring continuous development of the NOL Rules Engine, factoring in NOL’s customer proposition, product offerings and unique market position.
Maintain a URE strategy which has full Reinsurer support, and which is conscious of Market and Regulator movements, developments, and overall Industry results (claims).
Initiate all ongoing development work on the URE and any associated strategic initiatives in consultation with the Head of Underwriting. Continually look for opportunities to improve or refine the URE which will assist NOL new business efficiencies and/or mitigate NOL risk exposure.
Delivery focus - Understanding and striving to meet or exceed all metrics and KPIs while providing excellent consistent customer service.

Desired Skills and Experience
Capabilities
Strong attention to detail and proven URE, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Advanced knowledge of Underwriting processes and requirements.
Advanced knowledge of Life Insurance Products including Death, Total and Permanent Disablement, Trauma, Income Protection and Business Expenses products.
Understanding of key financial principles and processes.
Knowledge of federal, state, and regulatory requirements.
Excellent organisational and multi-tasking skills, with the ability to follow set processes.
High level verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Positive and self-motivated.
A strong focus on quality.
Good time management and organisation skills.
Ability to operate in a fast paced, team environment.
Experience & Qualifications
At least 5 years of Life and Disability Insurance Underwriting experience
Ideally 5+ years’ experience in Underwriting Rules Engine development, preferably with overall responsibility for successful solution delivery
