Our Lihir operation in HSES, Environmental Monitoring is now recruiting for the position of Technician – Environmental Monitoring.

The role will have the following responsibilities but are not limited to:

• Ensures personal and team compliance with all company HSE requirements & policies including Fitness for Work.
• Ensures all personnel, visitors and contractors comply with site and contractual HSE requirements and holds people accountable for adherence.
• Plans work so that it can be conducted safely and consider environmental conditions, nearby activities, people and other resources needed to complete the work
• Conducts field monitoring surveys, marine monitoring programs and water quality sampling.
• Provides front-line troubleshooting, basic calibration and maintenance of Environmental Monitoring equipment.
• Conducts general labour tasks such as minor construction, maintenance work and housekeeping of the small boat labour.
• Manages and coordinates Environmental Monitoring and maintenance to ensure the operation is productive with minimal impact on people who are exposed to occupational exposure risks.
• Ensures compliance with all applicable laws and relevant industry standards of practice.
• Ensures continuous evaluation of the environmental impact.
• Ensures continuous improvement of environmental management practices.

• Works under PNG Mine Safety Act, Newcrest Safety System, Safety Policies and Procedures and Newcrest

• Environment policies and all departmental operating procedures.

• Manages conflict resolution by utilising appropriate processes and channels to resolve issues arising.

• Exposure and understanding of the use of work management system programs

• Oversees environmental data management and interpretation

• Oversees the implementation of Environmental Monitoring and maintenance schedules

• Develops schedules and conducts maintenance compliance to planned activities.

Essential criteria

• Grade 12 certificate.
• Relevant Trade qualification is advantageous.
• PNG Driver's Licence - Class 6
• 3 – 5 years relevant work experience in an occupational health and hygiene technician role or similar
• Proficient in English with excellent verbal, written communication and public speaking skills
• Computer proficiency in MS Office suite.
• Sound planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously.
• Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines.
• Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution & training.

The Requirements

• Must be open to FIFO in PNG.
• Ability to complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
• Must have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last six months.
