How will I help?
Westpac One (Core) will transform Global Transactional Services (GTS) into a modern digital transaction bank that is profitable, sustainable, meets customer and market expectations and ensures Westpac remains competitive. To support this ambition, Westpac One (Core) will deliver new cloud-native capabilities and integrated digital experiences that create a market leading Transaction Banking platform.
The IT Program Director sits in the GTS and Payments Technology team and is dedicated to the build and delivery of Westpac One (Core).
This is a key leadership role for this significant, multi-year, multi-stream strategic program. The IT Program Director will provide leadership, robust program management, clear communication, issue/risk and dependency management, stakeholder management and technology platform ownership.
The Program Director will lead, and program manage Westpac One (Core), with a focus on the IT aspect of each workstream. This role consolidates all activities that underpin the solution delivery,. The role will provide leadership and guidance to the Program teams (squads) and acts as the primary influencer of senior stakeholders to anticipate and remove delivery roadblocks. They are accountable for structuring and sequencing a program of work that both informs and meets the business objectives and outcomes. To work hand in hand and in collaboration with the Program Leadership team - which includes the Product Owners who drives business strategy and sets strategic direction for delivery execution ensuring ongoing alignment.
The ideal candidate will have an extensive background in leading large scale technology transformation programs ($50M+). Experiences across Financial Services Digital delivery and /or Payments / Transaction Banking being preferable. They must also have a proven track record of leading teams, managing senior level stakeholders (at GM and CIO level) and have a background in financial services/banking.
The role is based in Sydney.
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Manage the end-to-end program to deliver solutions/capabilities that meet business requirements and realise benefits within agreed scope, time, cost, and quality.
  • Translate business needs and proposed outcomes into a clear and measurable program of work aligned to the Westpac One (Core) release strategy.
  • Engage closely with other key program leads to align shared capability resourcing and sequencing to optimise cross program outcomes.
  • Ensure business needs and proposed outcomes are traceable through the design process through active discussion and challenge where required.
  • Manage a team of 5-10 direct reports - developing and coaching individuals and/or teams to meet individual development needs and program requirements.
  • Direct the delivery of cost estimates in accordance with the Group's estimation process for funding approval.
  • Engage, inform, influence and negotiate with stakeholders (across the value chain), to ensure they remain engaged and committed throughout the program.

What do I need?
To be set up for success in this role, you will be able to demonstrate:
  • 15+ years in Program Director/program management preferably in Financials Services and/or Payments
  • Extended track record in leading and successfully delivering large complex multi-year programs of $50M+ successfully with aggressive timescales overseeing teams of typically
50 resources * Strong program management leading teams in different locations, across different business divisions in partnership with senior stakeholders to deliver critical business outcomes
  • Exceptional collaboration skills to bring together diverse stakeholders to align and make decisions on complex issues
  • Strong stakeholder management skills to senior GM and Executive stakeholders
  • Ability to drive internal and external teams to detailed plans
  • Managed external vendors to successful outcomes
  • Tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience
  • Certified Practicing Project Director (via AIPM) and/or Program Management Professional (via PMI) and/ or Managing Successful Program (MSP) accreditation desirable
  • SAFe accreditation desirable
