About The Role
The Tenement Specialist is responsible for supporting the management of Whitehaven’s tenements, ensuring compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements, and maintaining accurate records across NSW and Queensland. This role involves assisting in the application for, and maintenance, and administration of tenements, coordinating with exploration and mining teams, and providing support in stakeholder engagement and regulatory compliance.

This role can be based in either our Sydney, Newcastle, Brisbane or Gunnedah office.


What You’ll Do

  • Assist in the application, renewal, and maintenance of NSW and Queensland tenements.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and documentation for all tenements, including maps, reports, and compensation and other agreements
  • Support the monitoring of compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, and company policies related to tenements.
  • Assist in preparing and submitting reports and applications to regulatory authorities.
  • Coordinate with exploration and mining teams to support activities within tenement areas.
  • Ensure that exploration and mining activities are documented and conducted in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor the progress of exploration and mining projects and assist in reporting on their status
  • Native Title and Land Access Negotiations
  • Financial Management and Treasury Support

What You’ll Bring 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Land Management, Environmental Science, Geology, Law, or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience in tenement management or a related field within the mining industry.
  • Experience with land access and regulatory compliance for exploration and mining projects
  • Strong knowledge of state and federal regulations related to mining and land management.
  • Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills.
  • Good negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in using GIS software and other relevant computer applications.
