The role:
This role is focused on the development on a comprehensive test automation strategy aligned with the overall testing and development strategy.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Collaboratively work with the specialist streams within DHS to define the scope of test automation and identify areas where automation can bring the most value.
- Implement and configure selected automation tools to create a robust and efficient automation framework.
- Collaborate with the testing team and the subject matter experts to create detailed test plans and test cases for automation.
- Define test data and environment requirements for automated test execution.
- Oversee the development of automated test scripts and ensure they are maintainable, scalable, and reusable.
- Implement coding standards and best practices for automation scripts.
- Monitor test execution results and analyse failures, providing timely feedback to the development team.
- Integrate automated tests into the continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipeline.
- Provide training and mentorship to team members on test automation best practices.
The successful candidate will have the following:
- Demonstrated experience in the leading and planning of technical (automation) testing activities within a large, complex IM/ICT program/project(s).
- Demonstrated experience in leading all phases of automation testing, including plans, resources, costs, timescales, test deliverables and auditability for large, complex IM/ICT program/project(s).
- Demonstrated experience in the implementation of quality testing methods and frameworks to ensure the integrity of testing.
- Demonstrated experience in the provision of expert knowledge in relevant testing techniques and methods and tools for large scale complex organisations.
- Ability to initiate relationships and influence key stakeholders to ensure the delivery of required IM/ICT outcomes.
- Demonstrated high level analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving skills with a proven record in the assessment and evaluation of testing requirements within a complex IM/ICT environment.
- Ability to lead, manage and mentor a multi-disciplinary team.
- Demonstrate proficiency in using automation tools and frameworks to enhance testing efficiency and effectiveness.
- Exhibit robust coding skills in languages commonly used for test automation (e.g., Java, Python, C#).
- Demonstrate experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining automation frameworks.
- Exhibit strong communication skills in conveying automation strategies, results, and challenges to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Exhibit the capability to maintain clear and comprehensive documentation for automation artifacts, including test cases, scripts, and frameworks.
