- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline from a recognised institution, and/or equivalent relevant experience (preferably within the defence industry)
- Significant knowledge of appropriate engineering development methodologies and strategies
- Engineering experience in one or more of the following disciplines: RF Design, Radar & Weapons Architectures, Flight Deck Evolutions, or RAS logistics
- Working knowledge of Electromagnetic Radiation Hazards (HERO, HERF, HERP), RADHAZ - related principles, standards and certification rules in a maritime combatant context
- Familiarity with the Integrated Topside Design process which spans multiple engineering disciplines will be highly regarded
- An Australian NV-1 security clearance and ability to access/handle Export Controlled technology, data and information

The HCF Topside Engineer will support the Topside Lead in the engineering development of a fully integrated topside design as per the allocated functional and physical requirements.Major tasks and activities of this role will be:
- Working with the Topside Lead to evolve the physical arrangement of Combat System (CS) equipment on the Upper Decks such that it is safe, operable, maintainable and effective
- Developing and maintaining a derived set of Topside Performance Requirements that encapsulates all externally mounted CS equipment
- Liaising with the Systems and Transverse Team - in Australia and UK - who are responsible for executing HCF topside analyses
- Liaising with the Electromagnetic & Environmental Effects (E3) Modelling Team to ensure that analyses are executed in support of internal Topside need dates & external HCF Program schedule milestones
- Reviewing and endorsing the veracity of the E3 and non-E3 modelling results and approving the documenting of the Topside performance characteristics and associated attributes
- Ensuring that Platform (3D model), Combat System (Topside Items List) and the General Arrangement (GA) are all congruent and managed under configuration control
- Contributing to impact assessments of Product Change affecting Topside elements
