The Sydney Morning Herald is seeking trainees for our Sydney newsroom. The traineeship program is a rare opportunity for aspiring journalists to learn the craft alongside award-winning journalists and editors.

Day to day you will:

Focus on developing reporting and production skills Create impactful journalism Work across different parts of the newsroom Be mentored by colleagues To be successful, you will be passionate about The Sydney Morning Herald and excited about a career in journalism.

You must have excellent writing and interpersonal skills, a deep understanding of news and current affairs, and a curiosity about people and issues. We are particularly interested in applicants with a passion for data journalism and visual storytelling.

These positions are 12-month fixed-term contracts with the potential to secure a permanent role at the end of the contract. The traineeships are full-time rostered positions and could involve shift work including weekends. The Trainee Journalist salary is $61,300.20 + superannuation.
