The ANZ Commercial Division is embarking on a major multi-year transformation program supported by significant investment in FY23 and a continued trajectory into future years.  The Commercial Division’s goal is to be the leading bank for small to medium Australian businesses looking to start, run or grow. A strategy has been developed and endorsed by the Board and covers over 20 initiatives across propositions; platforms, policies, and processes; partnerships; and people, that will define and build the future of the Commercial Bank
The Transformation Design Lead role, which sits within the Transformation Management Office (TMO), is critical to making this happen and will be responsible for coordinating the delivery of the streams of work underpinning the Commercial Strategy.  Working with a small, talented team this role is responsible for developing, maintaining and communicating a broad suite of artefacts that will ensure all stakeholders remain aligned to deliver on the goals of the Commercial Strategy.  Working with a broad range of other stakeholders this role will also be responsible for the ongoing review and refinement of the divisional strategy as required in our fluid operating environment.  
Role Location: Melbourne or Sydney (some travel required if outside of Melbourne) 
Role Type: Permanent, Job-share c3 days

Role Accountabilities

The role is accountable for, but will not limited to:

  • Leading a team with deep expertise in the Commercial business and a particular focus on strategy, business architecture and experience design 
  • Conducting ongoing research and analysis on the external environment, market trends and competitor landscape to inform the ongoing appropriateness of the divisional strategy
  • Working with Commercial Leadership Team, Group Strategy and Functional Support teams (e.g., Finance, Operations) to review and refine the Commercial Strategy as/where required
  • Working as a team and leveraging the capability of a broad range of internal stakeholders (Commercial, Retail and Institutional Divisions, Tech and Data partners etc) to build and maintain a suite of artefacts to align and inform stakeholders and ensure the Commercial Strategy portfolio of work delivers a cohesive and consistent banker and customer experience.  This will include things such as;
    • Artefacts to support Executive Leaders: executive summary of customer and banker experience of the outcomes of the strategy
    • Artefacts to support the TMO/Commercial: service blueprint, business architecture, capability model 
    • Artefacts to support all Initiatives: process, data and technology blueprints 
  • Complete broad scale engagement and communication with all stakeholders to ensure that they understand and are aligned with the content relevant to them (per bullets above).  
  • Establish and run the Customer and Business Design Forum for Commercial.  This forum will form part of the broader Transformation Governance model facilitating design decisions for the Initiatives where delivery plans to vary from the prescribed blueprints.

Strategy Development

  • Experience in leading the development and/or execution of strategy or complex deliverables for a revenue business, and associated investment plans
  • Experience in reviewing and supporting strategically important opportunities


Experience in Converting Strategy to Action:

  • Experience in having led the delivery of complex strategic problems through to resolution


Commercial Acumen and the ability to translate a Vision to Practice: 

  • Exceptional business acumen and commercial mindset.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Problem-Solving Skills:
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with a very broad range of senior stakeholders to understand their current and future strategic goals
  • Good communicator and problem solver with experience translating technology and strategic designs and solutions into clear business objectives
  • Big picture thinker and a willingness to accept and adapt ideas from various sources to ensure a holistic approach 
  • Strong communication, interpersonal skills to develop and manage enduring relationships, including facilitating and influencing decision making of senior stakeholders 


People Management Experience:

  • Experience leading a small team
