About the Transition to Intensive Care program
At St Vincent’s, we use scholarly activities and innovation in our teaching strategies to prepare nurses for an ever-changing healthcare environment, where new technologies, treatments and areas of practice continue to emerge. We are seeking Registered Nurses for our 2024 Transition to Program who are committed to providing the highest quality of care to our patients and strive to further develop their knowledge and clinical expertise. The Transition Program is a six-month secondment position, ideally for Division 1 Registered Nurses who are interested in obtaining exposure to working in the critical care environment.
The Transition Program offers you supported clinical experience to achieve your future career goals, including support for articulation to postgraduate studies. As a Transition Program participant, you will be mentored by a highly skilled nursing leadership team and educators in a supportive learning environment. You will receive bedside clinical support and gain valuable experience in caring for patients requiring Intensive Care and high dependency nursing. The Transition Program includes four face to face study days that cover the essential elements of critical care nursing.
Please note (for internal staff members); this is a 6-month secondment position, applicants are advised to speak with their current managers to determine if a return to their substantive position after completion of the Transition program can be accommodated.
Your contribution
Current National criminal history check, or willingness to obtain
Covid-19 Vaccinated, or able to undergo vaccination prior to commencement
Provide high quality patient centred care
Manage both the physical and emotional well-being of the patient
Administer medication safely in accordance with hospital policies, procedures and protocols
Observe, report and document relevant nursing findings as per hospital policy and adjust patient care accordingly
Liaise with patients, patient families, medical and allied health as required or requested to facilitate the delivery of high-quality patient care
Facilitate effective admission and discharge processes in accordance with hospital or unit guidelines
Participate in ongoing professional development by attending training and study days as per the TICP program requirement.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Current Nursing Registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia via AHPRA without conditions.
Degree in General Nursing which meets the registration requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
Successful completion of a Graduate Nurse Program (or equivalent) in addition to, at least 2 years of acute care nursing experience.
Applicants must have recent clinical experience in a high dependency or critical care setting
Demonstrated commitment to ongoing educational and professional development.
Applicants must be an Australian citizen or have permanent residency.
