Transport operations fleet controller and all-rounder

• Ideally you will have HC & FL licences and be happy to jump in a truck or man the warehouse whenever needed
• Transport experience preferred but not required. All training will be provided on the job

This position requires using your brain as well as your brawn. This job would suit an active person with a quick, alert mind and a fit and able body. You will be responsible for driving day to day operational efficiency, safety and customer service levels while maximising the profitability and the productivity of the business.

You will need to be:

• There will be a lot of climbing in and out of trucks, on and off forklifts, moving and organising freight, and operating all of the computer programs and phone apps to keep everything running smoothly

Tasks you will be accountable for:

Customers

• First point of call for phone calls and customer enquiries
• Overcome constraints of day-to-day requirements for pick-ups and deliveries
• Ensure that all relevant data is entered into the company’s transport software effectively
• Ensure that PODs are provided for all deliveries
• Confirming accuracy of paperwork for all extraneous charges, such as tailgate use, hand unloads, demurrage, out of area, or other charges deemed appropriate
• Ensure a high-quality customer service environment and outcome is achieved by all fleet staff, communicating to customers in a positive and professional way
• Proactively update and maintain customer information to ensure reliable and accurate customer information is available

Fleet and drivers

• Plan all deliveries and pickups ensuring the fleet is utilised to its maximum efficiency and capacity at all times
• Coordinate the routing of loads to maximise the efficient use of equipment and drivers
• Ensure driver work schedules are in accordance with fatigue management regulations
• Prepare and manage driver rosters
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with drivers, supporting their health and wellbeing and engagement with the team

Compliance

• Ensure dangerous goods are handled to comply with the Dangerous Goods Act
• Ensure all drivers comply with Workplace Health and Safety laws
• Ensure all drivers comply with Chain of responsibility, Fatigue and Mass Management legislation
• Ensure all reporting functions for yourself and your team are completed each day and on time
• Test and contribute to ongoing system development and advancements relevant to the company’s values and vision
• Report on driving leakages, such as idle times, speeding breaches
• Analyse, report on and recommend training required for run failures, such as drivers getting lost, wasting time or being inefficient in coordinating runs for delivery

Award

• Clerks - Private Sector Award 2010 [MA000002]
• Level 5
• Ordinary hours rate - $30.22
• Overtime rate – as per the Award

Employment status

• Permanent full-time
• Monday to Friday
• 9:30am to 6:00pm (40 hours per week)
• Half hour unpaid lunch break per day

Superannuation

• You will receive the government-stipulated amount

Typical duties and skills at Clerks Award level 5 may include:

• Apply knowledge of organisation’s objectives, performance, projected areas of growth, product trends and general industry conditions.
• Application of computer software packages within either a micropersonal computer or a central computer resource including the integration of complex word processing/desktop publishing, text and data documents.
• Provide reports for management in any or all of the following areas:
• account/financial
• staffing
• legislative requirements
• other company activities
