Position Objectives
To assist in maintaining safe and enjoyable recreational and leisure facilities within parks, reserves, sports grounds, CBD’s and the urban landscape and to operate and maintain plant in a professional and safe manner.
Scope
This position is responsible to the Parks and Recreation Service Unit supervisors and exists in order to:
- Assist in the maintenance of CBD’s, parks, reserves and sports grounds for the safety and enjoyment of others
- Operate Vehicles including trucks as required
- Undertake effective use of and care and maintenance of resources, including but not limited to, plant and equipment, tools and materials in a safe and efficient manner
- Complete administration and paperwork as required relating to vehicles efficiently and effectively
Duties & Responsibilities
- Ensure that instructions and procedures are followed at work sites for the safety of the public, employees and contractors
- Assist in maintaining a safe work place
- Assist with maintenance and construction operations within reserves such as grass mowing, playground maintenance, sports ground maintenance, tree, shrub and garden planting & maintenance, including manual work and machinery operation
- Responsible for the promotion of positive and courteous dealings with all Council staff, public and stakeholders
- Carry out duties efficiently and through the employee’s training, experience and initiative
- Undertake tasks as required by the Parks Ganger and/or Service Unit Supervisors within the skills, training, qualifications and experience of the role
- Carry out duties in accordance with relevant legislation and Plans of Management for the area’s maintained
Personal Requirements
- Good level of fitness to perform labouring tasks
- Ability to communicate with the public in a courteous manner
- Good written and oral English communication
- Previous experience in truck driving
- Previous experience in labouring tasks
- Current MR licence [essential]
- Occupational Health and Safety Induction Certificate for construction work
- Ability to maintain a level of health and fitness to carry out physical requirements of the role
- Current Chainsaw qualifications [desirable]
- Current Traffic Controller ticket [desirable]
