Fixed term, full time appointment until July 2025
Professional Employee Level 6 - $84,931 – $90,518 
Plus 17% superannuation and 6 weeks annual leave

Lead and deliver training and research operations for the North Australia Centre for Autonomous Systems (NACAS).

About the Position
The North Australia Centre for Autonomous Systems (NACAS) is a Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) certified organisation at Charles Darwin University. The Centre conducts industry-focused research and training into the application of RPA (aka drones) across industries, businesses, and other sectors in northern Australia and the Asia Pacific regions. Our drone service and testing facility is located at CDU’s Casuarina Campus and boasts a large fleet of copter and fixed-wing aircraft, with specialisation in long-range eVTOL aircraft and beyond visual line of sight operations. 

We are seeking a remote drone pilot/instructor to join our team and play a crucial role in developing drone research and training operations in the Northern Territory. Your responsibilities will include piloting drones for testing, remote sensing, surveillance, freight delivery, and undertaking Beyond Visual Line of Sight Operations. We are also looking for someone who can assist the Chief Pilot to deliver the Certificate III Aviation Remote Pilot course (which includes the RePL) and our Indigenous ‘On-Country’ ranger drone training program. 

Working as the UAV Pilot / Instructor in our Research Centre is more than just flying drones; it requires critical thinking problem solving and applying the latest drone technologies to unlock new possibilities for industries and sectors relevant to north Australia. These include but are not limited to environmental management, search and rescue, agriculture, health care delivery, construction, asset management, and public safety. Candidates should have worked in the aviation industry (crewed or uncrewed) and have appropriate qualifications, a strong commitment to innovation and research, be willing to spend time in remote regions of the Northern Territory and engage in the training of First Nations People and students.

About You
To be successful, you will require:
•    Significant experience (2+ years) in manned aircraft or remotely piloted aircraft flight operations. 
•    High level of understanding of aviation legislation.
•    Proficient and confident in communicating with aircraft by VHF.
•    Experience in flight planning and aviation safety management. 
•    Demonstrated ability to work effectively and cooperatively as part of a team.
•    Demonstrated interest in undertaking research and training activities. 
•    A commitment to and understanding of workplace diversity and Occupational Health and Safety. 
•    Willingness to travel to and operate in remote and beautiful wild places.
•    Experience of working or living in regional or remote areas.

Remuneration 
Appointment to this role will be at Professional Employee Level 6. The base salary will be in the range of $84,931 – $90,518 per annum. The total remuneration package will be in the range of $99,369 - $105,906 per annum, including 17% superannuation.
