Underwriting Manager, Financial Lines Brooklyn
Melbourne VIC
This is a regulated role under the Central Bank of Ireland’s Fitness and Probity regime.
With offices located throughout Australia, Brooklyn Underwriting is a highly accomplished underwriting operation that has been operating for over two decades. Brooklyn’s insurance products are customised, market-specific solutions that are supported by specialist underwriting teams with recognised experience in Property, Casualty, Financial Lines, Marine and Specialty. The Underwriting Manager, Financial Lines manages a team across Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. You will be leading product distribution and relationships across the professional lines products including commercial PI, Information Technology, Cyber, Management Liability and Financial Planners. This role requires technical knowledge of SME platforms.

Operational Objectives
  • Overall portfolio management of the following business lines:
  • Miscellaneous Professionals
  • Design & Construction Professionals
  • Registered Trainers
  • Resources Professionals
  • Financial Professionals
  • Management Liability
  • Management reporting (as required)
  • Handling new business quotations, renewals and policy maintenance while providing advice and technical support to staff
  • Supervision and improvement of the online quotation system
  • Adherence to agreed Service Standards
  • Maintenance of all delegated Underwriting Authorities to staff
  • Maintenance adherence to all Underwriting Guidelines
  • Reviewing all product wordings and collaboration with AXA XL IFL as to changes or improvements
  • Ensure compliance with AXA XL corporate regulations and standards
  • Business development activities
  • New Product initiatives
  • Systems innovation
Financial Objectives
  • Achieve annual Gross Written Premium target across all lines
You will report to the Head of Brooklyn.
Qualifications
SHARE your talent
We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:
  • Proven experience in managing and leading a team is essential
  • ANZIIF Qualifications and/or degree qualified (preferred)
  • Proven experience in underwriting Professional Indemnity, Liability and Management Liability classes
  • Broad knowledge of both individual risk and portfolio management
  • Excellent relationship management skills (internal and external)
  • Understanding of key broker distribution channels and opportunities
  • Enthusiastic, resilient and a willingness to learn
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Superior negotiation skills
  • Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team
  • Highly developed analytical and problem solving skills
  • Leadership qualities
  • Attention to detail and has sound judgment
