The City of South Perth (the City) is seeking applications from candidates to undertake the position of Urban Planner to join the Development Services Business Unit.

The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing applications for development approval; and undertake all related tasks and actions to ensure their timely and accurate assessment as well as determination. Key responsibilities also include providing technical and/or administrative support to the Development Services Team on town planning and related matters, providing advice to customers in relation to development enquiries, approvals and/or licences, responding to residents' complaints relating to development and compliance with conditions of approval, undertaking prosecution actions, as may be necessary, under the relevant planning legislation and contributing to the achievement of the City's vision in line with the mission and values of the Strategic Plan.
To be successful in this position you need to demonstrate;
Essential:
- Bachelor's degree in Urban and Regional Planning or equivalent planning qualification
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the State Planning Framework, including State Planning Policy 7.3 - Residential Design Codes
- Ability to deal with customer enquiries and complaints in an effective manner with an emphasis on customer focus
- Highly developed written and oral communication skills
- Intermediate to advanced computer operation skills
- Experience in carrying out development assessment under the Residential Design Codes
Desirable:
- Knowledge of Local Government practices and procedures
- Current "C" Class Drivers Licence
This permanent position is a level 7 which attracts a salary of $90,343 - $103,451 gross per annum plus superannuation.
