The key duties of the position include
Our team
Join the dedicated team at the National Location Information Branch within Geoscience Australia, where we are at the forefront of ensuring Australia's national location information is accessible, trusted, reliable, interoperable, relevant, and sustainably managed. As part of this team, you will contribute to the Digital Atlas of Australia project, one of three major location-based initiatives that are transforming how we interact with and understand geographic data.
The Digital Atlas of Australia project brings together, curates and connects trusted national datasets from across government into an interactive, secure, and easy-to-use online platform. Anyone, anywhere can explore, analyse and visualise data on Australia's geography, people, economy and environment.

The role
This role combines service design, product design, and User Experience design to develop a unified solution for the Digital Atlas of Australia. It involves integrating insights from user research, strategic thinking, and design principles to create end-to-end experiences that are visually appealing, functionally strong, and easy to use. The role focuses on creating intuitive, seamless, and enjoyable User Experiences across the Digital Atlas Australia Platform
This role delivers business objectives by utilising a variety of tools and methodologies to research, prototype, and test designs, ensuring optimal usability and satisfaction for end-users.
The primary responsibility of this role includes;
  • Provide project management support for the delivery of the Digital Atlas of Australia, including fulfilling the role of scrum master for the project.
  • Support the Delivery Lead to develop and manage work plans, including effective and efficient employment of, and deliverables from, contractors and service providers.
  • Manage User Experience research, design and delivery including conducting workshops and ongoing engagement, analysing results and providing insights, and helping prioritise deliverables based on user needs.
  • Manage the design and delivery of user interfaces and a supporting content strategy to ensure clear and well-structured content that meets user needs and is managed through effective governance.
  • Guide the creation of content including text, visuals and interactive content, ensuring it is accurate, fit-for-purpose, accessible, searchable and findable.
  • Manage service design and implementation activities for the Digital Atlas to ensure effective planning and organising resources to improve the employee experience, and indirectly, the customer's experience.
  • Ensure customer service standards are met, and address customer feedback from a variety of sources.
  • Anticipate and inform priorities, monitor progress and work to deliver required Digital Atlas Australia outcomes.

To be successful in the role you will have:
  • Think strategically; be innovative; identify, implement and promote improved work practices.
  • Establish and maintain robust and valuable relationships with key stakeholders to facilitate effective collaboration and information exchange.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders and engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Communicate effectively and tactfully in order to obtain cooperation from staff at all levels as well as external stakeholders.

Required skills, knowledge, Experience and/or qualifications
Our ideal applicant will have a combination of technical skills, strategic thinking and effective communication abilities:
  • Relevant prior experience of at least five years in digital Product Delivery, User Experience, content strategy and service design.
  • Proven scrum master experience
  • Proven experience in leading small teams.
  • Demonstrated experience engaging with and influencing stakeholders at all levels.
  • Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail with proven experience in managing multiple tasks, meeting deadlines within short timeframes and working independently and as a member of a team in a high-pressure environment.
  • Strong analytical, communication and presentation skills, including the ability to prepare high-quality and accurate briefs and reports.
