At Leica & Fjorden, we are reimagining mobile photography. With Fjorden, we set out to create the world’s best smartphone camera system, combining new hardware controls and software. Since December 2023, the Fjorden team is part of iconic German camera manufacturer Leica, leading the development of the new Leica LUX camera app.

We are looking for an experienced UX/UI Lead Designer to join our team. We are working as a small, fast-moving unit within Leica, so we are looking for team members who can take charge of projects and work independently. That being said, we don’t require a fancy CV. In this role you will…

• Be part of the Leica LUX & Fjorden core team. You will be working directly with our CEO Victor, our CTO Florian, and two other senior iOS engineers, helping us grow Leica LUX & Fjorden into the world’s leading smartphone camera systems.

• Be in charge of defining and designing features for apps with hundreds of thousands of monthly active users.

• Create designs and visual assets for Leica LUX & Fjorden wherever necessary; e.g. the iOS App Store, our website, and other marketing channels.

• Develop and maintain design systems and guidelines to ensure consistency across all platforms.

• Coordinate & sign off on the design work of partner agencies.

You will be a great fit if…

• You have a strong portfolio showcasing your UX/UI design skills and experience with mobile applications.

• You have experience with design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, and Photoshop.

• You have a solid understanding of user-centered design principles and methodologies.

• You aim to get things done the right way, rather than rushing it. We care about quality.

• You are happy to work in a small team. We are not big on hierarchies and clear-cut boundaries. You will take charge early on and move projects forward, even when dealing with uncertainty & incomplete information.

• You are open to direct feedback and, at the same time, are not afraid to voice your opinion.

• It’s a bonus (but not required) if you are passionate about photography!

Our Stack

• UI designs and prototypes live in Figma, tasks are managed in Linear.

• Communication is done via Slack & Linear. You can work fully remotely, or from one of the Leica offices, e.g. Cologne, Munich, or Wetzlar (HQ). Victor is based in Oslo, Florian is in Amsterdam, and our other iOS engineers are also based in the Netherlands. Ideally you are located around +/- 5 hours of the UTC time zone. 1-2 times per year, we meet up in person in Germany, Norway, the Netherlands, or elsewhere.

Application Process

After you have applied, we will reach out and set up a call to get to know each other. You will learn what is important to us and can ask us any question. From our side, we want to understand what motivated you to apply.

You will receive a mini-test project to solve on your own time. We will pay you for your time. We want to know what it feels like to work with you on a day-to-day basis. During your time on this project, you will be a regular member of our team.

In the end, we will do another video call to talk through your solution, and you will explain why you did what you did. After this last step, we get back to you with a decision.
