Job description

About the RSPCA Qld

RSPCA Queensland is a non-government, community-based charity dedicated to improving the lives of domestic, farmed, and native animals in Queensland. Our mission statement is simple but powerful: Together We Change Lives.

About the role

We're on the lookout for an energetic individual who thrive in a fast-paced, ever-evolving environment, who enjoys a varied case load. Here, every day is a chance to make a difference, welcoming domestic patients through various channels - be it the public through surrenders, RSPCA animal ambulances, our proactive Community Outreach program, Inspectorate, or seamless internal transfers from regional shelters covering the Gympie and Noosa.

  • Provide high quality veterinary care (both medical and surgical) to all animals presented to the clinic.
  • Ensure high quality medical records are maintained for all patients.
  • Ensure a high standard of communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist in supervising Veterinary students.
  • Assist in training Animal Rescue Officers and Veterinary Nurses and assist in overseeing their S4 drug use in accord with the organisational accreditation program.
  • Help to ensure good welfare outcomes are achieved for each and every patient.
  • Ensure the values of the RSPCA QLD are upheld amongst domestic veterinarians, veterinary nurses and clinic assistants.
  • Regularly attend veterinary team and general staff meetings.
  • Participate in approved research projects as directed by the head scientist.
  • Attend RSPCA events including Community activation days and fundraising days.

Who are we looking for?

  • A Degree in Veterinary Science registerable in Queensland.
  • Minimum of three years’ general veterinary experience.
  • Previous welfare experience is an asset but not essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well & multi-task under pressure in a high-volume, busy hospital environment.
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, including high attention to detail and the ability to prioritise tasks within a busy work schedule.
  • Ability to establish solutions for complex problems whilst working autonomously and collaborating as part of a team.
  • Flexibility and adaptability are a must.
  • Genuine interest in animal welfare and the objectives of RSPCA Qld.
  • Ability to perform physical duties including manual handling, and an ability to handle a minimum weight of 10 kilos.

This is a part time position working 2 days per week across our Gympie and Noosa Shelters.

Benefits and culture

  • Access to counselling and mental health support services, Paid parental leave, Flexible Working Arrangements, Companion Animal leave and Study leave.
  • Access to a range of learning and development opportunities that will benefit and support your professional development.
  • Countless opportunities to interact with the animals in our care.
  • Be a part of a purpose driven organisation where the work you do really does have an impact on the welfare of animals.
  • Free animal adoption options, staff discounts with retailers, free pet vaccines, 40% off Royal Canin pet food, boarding options and much more.

How to apply

Please follow the application instructions, including a copy of your resume and cover letter outlining the following:

  • Please provide a brief summary of your clinical/diagnostic and/or surgical experience.
  • Please tell us your yearly salary expectations.

Alternatively, email your application through to ***********@rspcaqld.org.au
