About the Company/Role:
  • Defense Science and Technology Group (DTSG) seeking an experienced virologist to contribute to work within their Biological Agent Detective Team. The team are contributing to a project developing a rapid point-of-care diagnostic test targeting specifically identified pathogens.
  • This is a 12-month role with potential to extend until 2027.
  • State of the art laboratories and research centers.
  • Based in Port Melbourne
  • Full time position
  • Standard working hours
Duties:
  • Growth and maintenance of cell lines
  • Propagation, harvesting of arboviruses (PC2 and PC3), molecular techniques such as RNA extractions, qualification (qPCR, TCID50, plaque assays etc), virus sequencing
  • Test and evaluation of point-of-care diagnostic and detection assays
  • Contribution of writing reports as required
  • Communication with stakeholders and external collaborators
About you:
  • Must be an Australian Citizen
  • Degree in disciplines such as virology, immunology, molecular biology or related fields (Masters preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience in handling various sample types, such as human clinical and infected mosquito samples.
  • Experience within a NATA-accredited laboratory or diagnostic environment. 
  • Preferred experience within a PC3 laboratory 
  • Experience in handling viruses, particularly arthropod-transmitted viruses (arboviruses) at a PC2 level
  • Experience in molecular biology techniques such as isothermal assays, qPCR and plaque assays
  • Demonstrated experience in serological techniques including TCID50
