Wardrobe SupervisorNational Touring

About the role
We are seeking an experienced Wigs & Wardrobe Supervisor to join the team to manage the safe & smooth running of the department during the installation, rehearsal and performance period. Initially based from our Surry Hills office and then significant travel will be required as a part of Opera Australia’s regional tour. You will be required to lead the team in the dressing of cast, alterations and maintenance of costumes.

This is a fixed term contract from July to September 2024.

Key Areas of focus
Production

  • Maintain the artistic standard as directed by the Designer and quality of the wardrobe including any replacements of wardrobe for cast; and bump out and/or storage
  • Maintain the wigs as designed and made.
  • Bump in and bump out all wigs and wardrobe and associated equipment of the production
  • Purchase laundry aids as required and launder costume items as required
  • Assist the Child Coordinator in organising and managing all wardrobe, wig and dressing requirements for the children’s chorus.
  • Assist artists to ‘dress’ and supervise make-up.
Administration
  • Follow through on origination, update and modification of all relevant show plots
  • Attend production and staff meetings and implement requests from these meetings as directed.
  • Participate in event and venue documentation, including fault reporting and consumable requirements.
Health & Safety
  • Taking reasonable care of your own health and safety and that of others;
  • Ensuring that your acts or omissions do not adversely affect others; and
  • Complying with OA SAFE and any reasonable instructions, policies and procedure given by OA, to enable OA to comply with WHS laws and maintain a safe working environment.
About you 
We are seeking candidates who have advanced leadership & influence skills, as well as problem solving and judgement. You will have advanced attention to detail, as well as being flexible & adaptable.
  
In addition to this you will have:
  • At least 2 years demonstrated experience working as Wigs / Wardrobe Supervisor or equivalent
  • Excellent organisation and communication skills, written and verbal 
  • Demonstrated ability to work with creative and technical personnel and performers
  • Ability to work under pressure, using tact, diplomacy and flexibility
  • Knowledge and understanding of safe work practices 
Appointment to this position is subject to the position holder having residency status and/or possessing a visa with work rights. Appointment will also be subject to passing a mandatory Working with Children check.
