About the Role:

  • The Water Resources Manager is a team leader role managing 4 staff and is responsible for the development of policy, and provision of expert policy, legislative and management advice related to key Water Resources management programs in the Murraylands and Riverland Landscape Board region.
  • The role provides advice to Board and Committee Members, the Executive Leadership Team, staff and community in relation to progress against Water Allocation Plans, water resource management in general and related projects.
  • The focus of the role currently is leading and supporting the team on:
  • Investigating and developing policies for the amendment to the Peake, Roby Sherlock and Mallee water allocation plans
  • Leading the approach to undertake a comprehensive review of the Marne Saunders water allocation plan
  • Leading the report card project in the Marne Saunders catchment
  • Delegation for water affecting activity permits and compliance across the region
  • Gearing up for MDBA Basin plan review and implications for the River Murray Water Allocation Plan.
  • Ensuring Water Allocation Plans for the prescribed Water Resources within the Murraylands and Riverland Landscape Board region meet legislative requirements, have a high level of stakeholder engagement and are consistent with state and federal governments' strategic directions.
     

About Murraylands and Riverland Landscape SA
 

The Murraylands & Riverland region covers approximately 53,780 square kilometres from the Victorian and New South Wales borders to the western Mallee at the foot of the Eastern Mount Lofty Ranges. 

The region forms the south-western portion of the Murray-Darling catchment into which the River Murray flows. The River Murray supplies the majority of the water needs for the city of Adelaide and surrounding towns. Much of the land is used for primary production, including pastoral lands, dryland cropping, grazing, horticulture, irrigation and dairy farming. There are also ecosystems that are of state, national and international significance, including the Ramsar-listed Chowilla Floodplain, the Coorong and Lower Lakes. The natural resources of the region also support tourism, recreation and manufacturing.

The Traditional Owner groups include Ngarrindjeri, the First Peoples of the River Murray and Mallee Region, Peramangk, Ngadjuri, and Wilyakali.

Essential Qualifications:

Appropriate tertiary degree (minimum qualifications in Natural Resource Management, or related area is essential).

Special Conditions:

  • This position will be located regionally at either Murray Bridge or Berri
  • Current drivers licence is essential.
  • Some out of hours work, intrastate travel involving overnight absences from home or out of normal office hours may be required as part of the position.
  • All staff are encouraged to wear the appropriate uniform in any public setting to represent the MRLB region in a professional manner.
  • This role has been designated as a position of Trust pursuant to the standards required in the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework. By applying for this role you consent to being screened under the process of obtaining a National Police Clearance (NPC), and to the Department requiring you to obtain a National Police Clearance (NPC).

Remuneration: 

CLASSIFICATION PO4 $109,060 min - $118,690 max p.a. pro rata for part time hours.
