We are excited to present an opportunity for an experienced Work Health and Safety Coordinator to join one of the Regional Councils in Central West Queensland. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this role allows the applicant to take ownership of the WHS division in strategic and operational matters and works closely with all departments of the organisation.
About the role:
- Leadership: Provide leadership, support and strategic direction to the WHS team to ensure the team supports the organisation in the achievement of its objectives.
- Strategic Oversight and Compliance: Coordinate certification and surveillance audits, promptly addressing non-conformances while ensuring compliance through consultative forums and management reviews.
- Incident Management and Reporting: Manage investigations, reporting hazards, and ensuring regulatory notifications; collaborate with HR for effective WHS training and compliance monitoring.
- Hazardous Substances and Safety Systems: Oversee hazardous substance management, conducting risk assessments, and maintaining documentation; ensure compliance with asbestos management through annual audits.
- Stakeholder Engagement and Risk Assessment: Foster relationships in operational meetings with customers and stakeholders; assist the commercial team in assessing WHS risks for new regional developments.
- Proactive Health and Safety Programs: Implement random drug and alcohol programs, monitor fatigue management, and develop workplace health and wellbeing programs; manage the WHS budget, aligning expenditures with the allocated budget.
- Min of 10 years of experierence in a leadership role
- Experience in Construction and/or Council WHS environment
- Tertiary Qualifications in Health and Safety
- Proven experience in writing policies and procedures
- Advanced communication skills including well developed influencing and negotiation abilities
- Comprehensive knowledge of relevant WHS legislation, practices and standards
- Ability to travel when required (within the local region)
- Housing will be offered, rent free for first 3 months then reduced rent after this period
