Horticulturalist - Arboriculture

We are seeking a skilled and passionate Arborist to join our team. The Arborist is responsible for the care and maintenance of trees within Wollongong City, ensuring their health, safety, and aesthetic appeal. This role requires strong knowledge of tree species, growth patterns, and maintenance techniques. A demonstrated proficiency in operating and maintaining arboriculture equipment, such as chainsaws and woodchippers is essential to this role. The initial position will be in the Central area, and you will be part of a team of 4.

This is a hands-on role applicants must be physically capable of undertaking the duties outlined in the job description.

What you will be doing:

  • Perform tree inspections to assess health, stability, and risk factors.
  • Conduct pruning, trimming, and removal of trees as needed.
  • Adhering to industry standards and safety protocols.
  • Implement pest and disease management strategies to protect tree health.
  • Respond to tree-related emergencies, such as storm damage or fallen trees, in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with other council departments and external stakeholders on tree-related projects and initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate records of tree assessments, maintenance activities, and inventory.

About you

  • You are a Qualified Arborist with great climbing skills.
  • You are passionate about arboriculture and dedicated to preserving urban green spaces.
  • You have excellent communication and organisation skills, with a collaborative and proactive team focused approach.
  • You effectively problem solve and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • You are a leader in Work, Health and Safety.
