Role Purpose
The Senior Claims Consultant plays a pivotal role in Telstra’s self-insured Workers’ Compensation Claims and Health Management & Rehabilitation Consultants (HMRCs) teams, to support the team to deliver effective and proactive claims’ management services to Telstra employees and ex-employees who are injured at work.
The position holder is responsible for:
End to end management of a portfolio of higher complex claims (50% of role), with delivery of strategic, proactive and best practice claims management.
Provide mentorship and coaching for an established team of claims consultants
Decision making in accordance with legislative requirements, licence performance standards and obligations, internal policies, and procedures.
Developing outcomes-focused strategies to drive recovery and sustainable return to work.
Collaborating with stakeholders to deliver personalised claims’ management strategies with a focus on safe and sustainable outcomes; and
Providing a service experience that is tailored, effective and customer focused.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage a complex portfolio of current and ex-employee claims and be committed to paying the right compensation to the right person at the right time.
Provide effective mentorship and coaching for a team of claims consultants.
Regulatory compliance and assurance activities, in accordance with the self-insurance licence.
Implement and mentor the team on responsibilities as a Claims Delegate under the SRC Act (1988).
Demonstrate an empathetic, resilient, and motivational approach to provide customer centric support.
Demonstrate being a supportive and proactive team player who is focused on the ‘we’ not the ‘I’.
Demonstrate an ability to listen and understand the needs of the customer whilst fostering collaborative relationships to facilitate recovery and return to work.
Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, conflict resolution skills and attention to detail.
Demonstrate an ability to adequately identify, assess and review critical information to make reasonable decisions based on sound evidence and justification.
Demonstrate a strong ability to develop effective case management strategies which consider all stakeholders and drive positive outcomes.
About You
To be successful in this role you will need:
Dynamic and proactive approach to claims management
Excellent knowledge of Safety Rehabilitation and Compensation Act (SRC Act) and principles
Excellent ability to interpret and apply the SRC Act legislation in the context of a self-insured licensee environment
Demonstrated ability to perform in high-pressure, deadline critical situations
Flexible approach and able to adapt to a rapidly changing organisation
Demonstrated ability to function independently and as a contributing member of the team
Strong contribution to the team environment
Critical Skills
Proven experience (3-5 years) in Workers’ compensation claims management
Excellent communication skills
Experience managing claims under the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation 1988 (Highly desirable)
