About the role
We are currently seeking an enthusiastic Fleet Maintenance / Workshop Manager to join our team. The successful applicant will have good time management, well-developed diagnostic and heavy vehicle mechanical skills.
The Maintenance Manager position is a critical role that ensures the cost-effective upkeep of the organisation’s fleet assets, including Routine servicing, Repairs, Maintenance, Purchasing and Stock control, all within a dynamic environment.
The role provides supervision of all aspects of Maintenance and work carried out on the fleet, both internally and externally and ensures the Workshop and designated areas are safe, organised and well-structured.
Duties
- Assessing Reported Faults – Creating Repairs – scoping and Planning Repairs – for all equipment. Including Fabrication and Tyre Jobs
- Scheduling maintenance and repairs whilst managing and balancing the competing imperatives of the business.
- Co- Ordinating labour, balancing maintenance priorities and transport needs in a dynamic environment requires a high level of responsiveness and preparedness.
- Manage daily operations of the workshop.
- Oversee outside suppliers / contractors.
- Assisting with on-road maintenance (Breakdown) and accident events as required.
- Hands-on leader – able to get on the tools when needed.
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of around 9 Tradesmen, TA’s and apprentices.
- Accountability for purchasing and stock control in line with company guidelines via the correct processes and procedures.
- Accountability for targets/KPIs
- Manage the administration of the mechanical workshop.

- Ensure all maintenance records effectively maintained to enable stock control, ordering of parts and all other workshop functions operate efficiently.

Skills and experience
- Staff leadership and management experience
- Trade Qualified Heavy Vehicle Mechanic
- HC / MC Truck Licence advantageous
- Process-driven and very comfortable working with systems and IT.
- Strong decision-making skills (balancing many competing interests)
- Strong communication skills
- Good people management skills
- Previous experience as a workshop Supervisor or Manager in Heavy Vehicle Background is ideal.
- Run an efficient and productive workshop.
- Adhere to and implement safe work practices.
