West African Resources Limited is an ASX listed gold company (trading symbol WAF). The Company owns and operates the Sanbrado Gold Operation (Sanbrado) in Burkina Faso, West Africa.
Sanbrado encompasses both underground and open pit mining operations. The long-term economics are robust, with a current average annual production profile over the 10 year mine life of over 200,000 ounces of gold.

KIAKA PROJECT DEVELOPMENT
The Company acquired the Kiaka Gold Project (Kiaka) in 2021. Kiaka is large-scale, permitted development project and hosts 7.7Moz gold Mineral Resource (280Mt at 0.9 g/t Au). Kiaka has a long-life, low-cost project averaging 219,000ozpa for 18.5 years at AISC of US$1,052/oz.
Construction of the Kiaka camp, infrastructure, civil and community projects have commenced, including work under the EPCM contract and packages of work.
THE ROLE
West African Resources is seeking to employ an experienced Mining Fleet - Maintenance Manager to work initially as part of the owner mining operational readiness team, and then transition into the operational Maintenance Manager for the Mining Fleet.
The initial phase of this role will be based in the WAF Perth office, where the successful candidate will play a pivotal role preparing set-up of maintenance systems and processes and other owner mining operational readiness activities, before transitioning to a site-based role.
Our ideal candidate for this role will have extensive experience overseeing maintenance management of a Mining Fleet (open pit), ideally with operational experience in an overseas jurisdiction.
Key functions will include:
Phase One – Operational Readiness
- Systems: Develop fleet and asset maintenance strategies, frameworks and procedures. Identify and evaluate risks associate with operational readiness and develop strategies to mitigate the risks.
- Planning: Oversee the development of maintenance records and planning for all fleet assets.
- Supply chain: As part of the operational readiness team, collaborate with consultants, services providers and suppliers to ensure that equipment and services are aligning with Company needs, timelines and contract terms.
- Transition into operations: Oversee maintenance related activities including recruitment and selection, training and support during set up of the supply chain and warehousing functions for owner mining operations.
Phase Two – Mining Fleet Operations
- Compliance and Safety: Ensure that all processes and activities are aligned with company health, safety and environmental policies and standards.
- Fleet Maintenance Management: Oversee maintenance planning, maintenance schedules, repairs and breakdown services and major component replacements for the Mining Fleet.
- Asset Management: Establish systems to minimise risks and enhance reliability and availability of the fleet.
- Resource Optimisation: Monitor budgets, manage expenditures and optimise maintenance planning for maximum efficiency.
- Team Leadership: Foster clear communication lines with all stakeholders and leadership of the maintenance team.
We are seeking a maintenance professional who has the experience and desire to share their knowledge as we prepare to commence operations at our Kiaka Project.
Applications are sought from experienced Mining Fleet maintenance professionals who have the following qualifications, skills and experience;
- Recent experience establishing and leading Mining Fleet maintenance.
- Candidates who have previous experience managing maintenance of Mining Fleet in West Africa, or similar jurisdictions will be highly regarded.
- An excellent working knowledge of open pit Mining Fleet, tyre management and related equipment and services.
- Experience in managing fleet maintenance planning and day to day management of personnel and facilities.
- Supply Chain or logistics experience in relation to the supply and maintenance of Mining Fleet and tyres.
- Experience in developing and maintaining an effective team and operating systems that will deliver the highest levels of safety and performance whilst achieving maintenance schedule and targets.
- Highly developed understanding and application of preventative maintenance, ERP, contemporary technology and maintenance software/platforms.
- English language (spoken and written). English and French (spoken and written) would be highly regarded.
