The Opportunity

Schlam is offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced Workshop Superintendent - Attachments. Joining Schlam will provide opportunities for learning from the best and sharing in the development of innovative manufacturing and production efficiency. 

The Role

As a successful applicant, you’ll be responsible to the Operations Manager for tasking, training and supervising workshop employees in the safe and profitable fabrication of Schlam products.  You’ll proactively engage with all management and supervisory staff to ensure appropriate resource allocation across all manufacturing units. In addition, you’ll:

  • Ensure that safety, risk assessment and continuous improvement drive all employees’ actions and is the prevailing culture.
  • Conduct weekly safety toolbox talks in conjunction with Supervisors.
  • Supervise of factory tradesman and equipment to optimise efficiency, quality and productivity in the workplace.
  • Ensure correct and efficient operation of production equipment.
  • Monitor employee attendance, work status, training and qualifications.
  • Maintain training/competency matrix of workshop staff to assess the skills required to support the business.
  • Develop and maintain tools, jigs and other items to improve production, quality and safety.
  • Complete operations of AutoCAD for the production of engineering drawings as required.
  • Conduct Welding Inspection to ensure compliance.
  • Ensure all QA documents are completed accurately and correctly to comply with customer requirements at all times.
  • Determine new work procedures, prepare work schedules and expedite workflow in the factory through discussions with the Production Planner and Operations Manager.
  • Ensure correct allocation of labour, materials, consumables and services against specific factory tasks and jobs for job costing.

You’ll hold the following qualifications:

  • Qualifications in Engineering with a minimum of five years’ experience working as a Supervisor or in a similar position.
  • Cert III Engineering Fabrication.
  • CSWIP 3.2
  • Welding Supervisor – AS2214.
  • Current valid driver’s license.

You’ll also bring skills, knowledge and experience that include:

  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels and across a culturally diverse workforce .
  • Strong people management and supervision skills.
  • Strong technical skills in metal fabrication/welding and engineering drawing interpretation.
  • Strong ability to effectively schedule, allocate and organise tasks and people.
  • Intermediate computing skills including spreadsheets, word processing and production related software.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and other engineering software.
