Job description

AXIS Employment is hunting down our next superstar Youth Consultant in our Transition to Work (TtW) Program! Are you up for the challenge?

A little bit about us:
Over our 30 year history, AXIS Employment has grown to become one of the top providers of specialised Employment Services across Victoria and South East South Australia. Today we are supporting over 4,000 participants across 3 programs and we’re on track to have helped around 2,000 people to find and maintain rewarding employment! Our strong relationships with community and employers helps make Axis and our participants a valuable asset in the current employment market.

Our Transition to Work (TtW) program provides support for young people 15-24 years old to assist them into employment or education. You will have the opportunity to work with people one on one to develop their work readiness but also organise and facilitate group activities to develop interpersonal and teamwork skills.

What will I do as a Youth Consultant?
Firstly and most importantly, you will be making a positive impact in the lives of your participants! Each Youth Consultant works with a caseload of young people, aged 15 to 24 who are considered at risk of long-term unemployment. You will meet with each participant on a regular basis, building rapport, discovering their skills, identifying areas of potential development and upskilling with the goal to re-engage them in education or employment.

You'll build strong relationships with training providers, community-based support networks and local employers to ensure participants are as job-ready as they can be.

Maintaining regular contact with your caseload is imperative. You will motivate each person to develop their work readiness but also organise and facilitate group activities to develop interpersonal and teamwork skills.

Who can be an Youth Consultant?
Anyone who has a real desire to potentially change the course of someone's life! No qualifications are necessary. We want a team player who wants to play an important part in the success of our fantastic organisation.

A key component of being a Youth Consultant is being able to motivate and encourage participants while also understanding their individual barriers. Communication is a big part of the role - you will be talking to a lot of people, from participants, employers, other service providers and of course, your fellow work mates. There will be some aspect of travel involved in your week as we service “outreach sites” within the region, but don’t worry, all travelling is done within work hours. As with most jobs, “excellent time management skills, great communication, attention to detail and strong computer skills” all apply.

You will need to have a current driver’s licence and, as a Child Safe Organisation, you will currently hold (or be willing to obtain) a valid Working with Children Check and ability to pass a Criminal History Check.

So, after all that, why would you want to work with us?
If you are still reading, then it’s a good indication you are thinking this might be the job for you. Along with the personal satisfaction of helping others, and in addition to our competitive starting annual salary of $64,710, our Staff Benefits Program also offers:

• a flexible, family-friendly work environment
• private use of a company car.
• private use of an iPhone
• an additional 1% superannuation above the Super Guarantee
• salary packaging options
• 5 weeks annual leave for eligible staff
• 3 bonus days over Christmas
• eligibility for an annual staff bonus
• access to our Employment Assistance Program

The total value of the package on offer is equivalent to $87,435.

Applications, which must include a cover letter and resume, close on Wednesday 13th March at 9:00am. But if you're keen, don't wait until the deadline because if the right person comes along, we might just fill the position before this date!
