About the roleIn this role, you will work within the Youth Development Unit to plan, deliver and evaluate a range of evidence based and youth informed programs and opportunities for young people, in the areas of youth health and wellbeing and community development. You will liaise and work with youth organisations, schools, service providers and government departments to meet the needs of young people in the Geelong community as identified in the City’s Youth Development Unit Service Plan.
Work Type: Permanent Full TimeClassification: Band 6 $90,263 - $97,365 pa plus super
Responsibilities include:
Apply best practise community development principles in the delivery of youth community development initiatives aimed at identifying the barriers for LGBTIQA+ young people, young people living with a disability, and other young people from marginalised groups that prevent their ability to participate fully in their community.
Identify, design and deliver programs and other initiatives that create enabling and supportive communities for young people.
Design and implement new and innovative processes that strengthen networks and opportunities to codesign programs with young people.
Identify, design and deliver youth health and wellbeing programs aligned to Department and Council Plans.
Share & develop resources, provide advice and raise awareness of issues relating to access and inclusiveness of services for LGBTIQA+ young people both within and beyond council.
Maintain effective engagement and communication with other employees at all levels, and other relevant stakeholders.
Share creative ideas and identify opportunities to continuously improve the operations of the Youth Health and Wellbeing and Youth Community Development function areas.
About youThe ideal candidate for this role will have an understanding of youth work principles with a focus on Youth Development, with experience in the design, delivery, facilitation and evaluation of youth programs. You will be a good communicator, be able to liaise with a diverse range of people, be highly organised, self motivated, have high levels of resilience with a safety first mindset and a professional approach to your work.
Essential
Understanding of culturally sensitive and informed practice with LGBTIQA+ and other marginalised communities.
Significant experience in the areas of youth and community development, specifically in planning, implementing/facilitating and evaluating Youth Development programs in small teams or in collaboration with a variety of stakeholders.
The ability to work with and facilitate programs to a range of stakeholders including young people, community, schools, families and other youth focused agencies.
Experience leading research projects, stakeholder consultations and monitoring and evaluation of youth/community development programs.
An understanding of research principles and methodologies particularly in the youth and community development areas.
Ability to facilitate a range of health prevention and education programs to young people.
Tertiary qualification in Youth Work, Community Development, Social Sciences or Education, Health Promotion or relevant field with several years related experience, or extensive related experience.
Availability to work outside of normal business hours, including nights and weekends.
Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check as part of the recruitment process and have a current Working with Children Check.
