Youth Homelessness Outreach Specialist

YFS’ outreach team supports the growing numbers of people rough sleeping in our city.

As part of this team, new Youth Homelessness Outreach Specialists will connect with young people wherever they are to provide practical assistance and help young people to find stable housing with the additional supports they need.

We’re looking for someone with great communication skills and an understanding of issues contributing to homelessness to fulfil this role. You will need to be practical, flexible and have a high level of empathy.

The team will work outside standard business hours, so you need to be flexible with your hours.

Role location: Slacks Creek 
Role type: Permanent, full-time 
Pay range: $82,306 to $88,570 a year based on experience, with salary packaging exempt from Fringe Benefits Tax available 

In this role you will:

• connect with young people wherever they are, building trusting relationships 
• provide practical support to young people experiencing homelessness to help them access crisis and long-term housing and link them with the supports they need
• assist in delivering client services that are effective to help people experiencing homelessness to achieve long-term change.

• are hands-on, practical and adaptable in responding to changing situations
• have experience in person-centred service delivery, preferably in homelessness or mental health services
• are passionate about supporting people experiencing homelessness 
• have a deep understanding of the circumstances of young people sleeping rough and effective ways to respond
• can work flexible hours to ensure the outreach service can meet requirements for after-hours and weekend responses. The team will have staff working from 6am to 8-10pm weekdays and daytime hours on Saturday, with potential to add Sunday if demand emerges. You will need to be able to provide support across these periods.
