Ryde-Gladesville Catholic Parish, whose offices are located at St Charles Borromeo, Ryde, is looking for a Youth Minister to join our Youth Team. This is role will be with SPARC Youth Group, this youth group is in 2 group from Year 6 to Year 9 & Year 10 to Year 12. This position is for 20 hours per week. Non negotiable hours Friday 12pm to 10pm and Sunday Youth Mass 5pm to 7pm. Balance of 8 can be taken over two days on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.
The primary purpose of this position is to connect with the youth of the Parish and build up our youth ministries. To work under the guidance of the Youth Coordinator to help better suit the pastoral objective of the Parish in the area of youth ministry. To help lead Parish youth groups and provide a suitable role model for youth in the Parish.
To achieve this, the Youth Minister will be required to work in close communion with the pastoral objectives of the Parish Priest, the supervision of the Youth Coordinator, integrate and accompany other youth leaders and the youth themselves, and devise and implement activities that cater for the broad spectrum of youth ages.
We are looking for a Youth Minister that will have relevant experience in a similar role such as Youth Work or Parish Ministry.
Duties include
- Compliance with all relevant Child Protection & Adults at Risk measures, which includes becoming a PSSO (Parish Safeguarding Support Officer)
- Planning and execution of Sparc meetings, activities and events in conjunction with Youth Coordinator; including Term plans, Annual Camps, formation of Youth Leaders & other Youth initiatives.
- Contribute towards the leader’s formation sessions in conjunction with Youth Ministry Coordinator.
- Organise all Trybooking links, as well as google forms etc connected to youth activities
- Collection, organisation & filing of youth data and related documentation (e.g., permissions from parents etc.)
- Prepare and accompany Youth Masses and other worship activities, delegating responsibilities for support ministries such as Readers, Eucharist Ministers, Offertory Procession & and Parish Collectors.
- Taking part in the Sacramental Program in conjunction with the Sacramental Coordinator for youth related activities.
- Preparing Parish Bulletin Youth articles & social media postings
- Outreach to Parish-linked primary and secondary schools
- Promote the Catholic Inquiry (RCIC) program for young people to enter into full communion with the Catholic Church.
- Utilising resources of other Catholic (or Archdiocesan) agencies to support and promote youth activities within the Parish
- Encouraging and fostering in the school and college students as far as possible, the practice of their Catholic faith both within and beyond the classroom
The ideal Youth Minister will have:
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications – Word, Excel, PowerPoint as well as Google and Canva.
- Experience in facilitating, networking & coordinating people
- Demonstrated commitment to youth
- Commitment to the Catholic faith through personal witness and practices
- Commitment to prayer life
- Capacity to work in teams with sound communication skills
- Current Driver’s Licence and own transport
- You must be prepared to work on Friday nights & Sunday evenings.
This position will suit a person who can easily work within a team, hardworking, flexible during busy periods with a flair for writing interesting blogs and social media posts.
