YAC has a multidisciplinary team delivering services across the greater Brisbane area generally, to young people aged 10-18 years who are involved in, or at risk of involvement in the youth justice and/or child protection systems, and/or are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Our Youth Support Service (YASS) provides flexible, integrated and practical mobile support, case work, court support and practical assistance to young people aged 15-19 years who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and/or who have legal issues across the Greater Brisbane area (up to Caboolture and down to Beenleigh, from Ipswich across to the Bay and Islands).

About the role - summary
To support the Youth Support Service (YASS) which provides mobile support to young people aged 15-19 years who are homeless or risk of homelessness and/or who have legal issues in the Greater Brisbane region.
Responsibilities in brief:
- Provide a flexible, integrated and practical mobile support service to young people who are homeless or risk of homelessness and/or have legal issues across the Brisbane region.
- Develop thorough and effective case management responses.
- Utilise a range of flexible strategies to engage and respond to young people in varied outreach locations.
- Provide outreach through the Youth Court Assist Program (YCAP) to young people at Brisbane s Children’s Courts.
- Build relationships within the community and work collaboratively with other stakeholders.
- Be a strong advocate for young people, and their families where appropriate.
- Completion of all administrative recording and reporting in relation to the above to ensure accountability to the funding body.
- Other duties as reasonably required.
For this role, you will have:
- a university level qualification in Social Work, Human Services or other relevant discipline and at least three years’ experience in working in a relevant environment
- a current positive Working with Children check (“Blue Card”) or the ability to quickly acquire one
- a current clean driver licence which allows you to drive in Queensland
- Australian citizenship or permanent residency
You will be able to demonstrate:
- Significant experience in working with young people in an outreach capacity, including those with complex needs.
- High level ability to undertake assessments and referrals.
- High level of interpersonal, oral communication and engagement and advocacy skills.
- Demonstrated cultural capability.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the youth accommodation, criminal justice and general youth sectors.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a small team.
- Excellent organisational skills, including planning and prioritisation, be self-motivated with demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and autonomy, manage own time efficiently and ability to work under pressure.
- Advanced computer literacy skills.
- High level ability to network/engage with relevant stakeholders.
- Commitment to social justice and human rights principles, particularly in relation to children and young people.
