About the Role 

The Youth Vocational Specialist is responsible for the implementation and delivery of the headspace Work and Study program, funded by the Department of Social Services as the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) Program. As part of this program the role will:

  • Work as part of the headspace Hervey Bay multidisciplinary team and with external stakeholders to assist young people experiencing mental health and wellbeing challenges to transition into employment, education, or training, and provide ongoing mentoring and post-placement support.
  • Manage the collection of appropriate data and record keeping and reporting in line with program requirements to support the project evaluation and outcomes.

Support headspace clients at both Hervey Bay and Maryborough headspace venues, as well as through outreach in the community.

 About You 

Essential:

  1. Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or relevant experience in the vocational services sector.
  2. Demonstrated effective problem solving, time management and task prioritisation skills.
  3. Demonstrated experience and ability in accurate and timely data collection, monitoring compliance and effective report writing.
  4. Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication skills with proven ability to engage successfully with young people and other stakeholders at all levels.
  5. Advanced computer skills with an ability to use a range of Microsoft Office applications.
  6. Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment and work co-operatively to achieve outcomes.
  7. Willingness to learn and comply with relevant privacy legislation, ensuring confidential information is protected from unauthorised disclosure and use.
  8. Proof of Vaccination Status as required by Legislation, Health Directives or WMQ Policy throughout employment and prior to commencement.
  9. Relevant probity checks required by legislation and WMQ policy.
  10. Current Driver's Licence and willingness to drive in the course of work.

Desirable:

  1. Demonstrated experience successfully supporting young people with mental health conditions to achieve positive outcomes.
  2. Demonstrated partnership-building and negotiation skills with a broad range of service providers, key stakeholders, and employers.
