Job description

Country Connect have a focus on providing supports that improve the health of an individual through emotional and social wellbeing. This means identifying, providing, and creating opportunities for people to stay connected to family, culture and country and to build a life that they truly value.

We firmly believe that every child should have access to opportunities that cater to their interests and positively impact their overall wellbeing. Whether it involves music, sports, or fostering a connection to community and country, our dedicated team is committed to providing support and guidance to help young people realise their fullest potential, opening up a realm of boundless possibilities.

This approach is delivering positive outcomes for our Territory’s youth, and we are building on this with a focused team of Youth Workers who will be dedicated solely to our most individualized programs for young people in the Territory with significant and complex behaviours, trauma and social challenges. This team will work in a holistic and highly person-centered way to create and deliver a service that is unique to the youth concerned.

This may include aspects such as nutrition, working with community to facilitate kinship connections, mobile bush camps, return to country trips, residential care, while also simply providing mentoring, and support to undertake everyday activities, build confidence and develop skills.

According to the individual’s needs you may also be required to support them in navigating the NDIS system, other relevant services, and possibly the judicial system.

Our program currently spans Milikapiti, Ramingining, Jabiru, East Arnhem homelands and Darwin. This role will require you to travel extensively across the top end.

You

We place high value on life experience both within and outside of this industry. It’s really important to us that our clients can work with people who are genuinely relatable for them, and who they would actually get along with outside of a client support relationship. As such, we value diversity of backgrounds, passions, interests, and experience in our team. Our team includes people with sporting backgrounds, musicians, trades and construction workers, community workers, health workers.

The most essential criteria is an ability to form positive and meaningful relationships, a positive can-do attitude and creativity to get things happening. We value consistency and reliability as one of the most important offerings of our program for the youth participating.

Patience, adaptability and the ability to remain calm in a variety of high intensity situations is critical. Previous experience in trauma-informed practises should be addressed in your application.

Experience working or living out bush or in a remote environment is desirable but not critical. This role will require you to have some experience and interest in camping, 4WDing and other outdoor pursuits.

Also:

  • An ability to work both independently and as part of a (cross cultural) team is essential. You must also be able to travel regularly for several weeks at a time and be willing to travel in light aircraft.
  • An NT class C manual drivers licence
  • Working with Children clearance and national police check (or willingness to obtain)
  • Current First Aid certificate
  • A Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Services or qualifications in Developmental Trauma would be highly regarded

In return:

We offer above award rates of pay and a social team environment with opportunities to see some of the Top End’s most beautiful areas.
