About Flat Track Youth Works

Jobs Australia Enterprises is focused on supporting our local communities through our social enterprises. 

Flat Track is a division of Jobs Australia Enterprises, which enables young people who have lost their way to reconnect with education and training, become work ready and secure meaningful employment. 

The Flat Track program teaches young people life skills and takes a hands-on approach to learning while building a sense of belonging and independence. Our facilities include “The Shed” which is used for our woodwork, metalwork and mechanics, “The Farm” which is for learning farming and machinery skills and our community activities where we encourage the participants to help out local businesses or community members who are having a hard time. As part of the program the FlatTrack participants engage in the community by assisting local agencies, businesses and families with lawn maintenance, handyman services and support with disaster recovery.

The Youth Workers are our positive role models who will engage with young people, offering positive mentoring and support. 

About the opportunity 

This is a full time opportunity based in the heart of  Moree, NSW. 

The Youth Worker will engage proactively in both participating and supervising program attendees. Additionally, they will provide assistance and guidance to all participants and staff involved in the FlatTrack program.

You'll be responsible for offering direction and coaching to your team, aiming to enhance their skills, teamwork, and overall engagement. This includes ensuring that activities are executed safely and in accordance with standards and regulations.

You have the capacity to cultivate outstanding working relationships with your program participants, and external stakeholders, ensuring a collective effort toward positive outcomes that bolster our participants within the FlatTrack program.

Your responsibilities in this role encompass:

  • Guiding, supporting, and mentoring young people through various engagement activities.
  • Upholding safety standards by adhering to organizational WHS (Work Health and Safety) requirements and guidelines.
  • Overseeing young individuals in woodwork projects, metal fabrication, lawn maintenance, small motor mechanics, and machinery operation.
  • Maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the shed, along with any other reasonable tasks assigned by the project manager.
  • Providing mentorship and support to vulnerable youth participants.

 In addition, you:

  • Possess demonstrated experience and training in a trade. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills including excellent communication, motivational skills, ability to respect diversity of opinion, ability to deal with conflict resolution and ability to work with a diverse group of people.
  • Sound IT skills.
  • Current valid Driver's License and the ability to undertake travel frequently.
  • Valid Right to Work within Australia.
  • Satisfactory outcomes on National Police Check and Working with Children Check (no older than 12 months)
