Job description

About Piper Alderman

Piper Alderman is a full-service, national, commercial law firm with offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. With 160 years' experience and over 400 employees nationally, we have achieved our impressive growth and success by listening to our clients and creating practical and innovative legal solutions.

The role

Piper Alderman is looking for a number of ambitious and hard-working law students to take on Law Clerk roles in our Adelaide office. If you are looking for an opportunity to challenge yourself and work across different teams while surrounded by leading practitioners to facilitate your growth and development, this is the perfect role for you!

As a Law Clerk you will be given the opportunity to do real legal work from the get-go, in a supportive and collaborative learning environment which encourages you to balance and blend your university commitments with work experience. You will see the opportunity to immerse yourself in interesting, thought-provoking tasks such as legal research for current matters, drafting correspondence and legal documents, attendance and note taking at client meetings, gathering and analysing case facts and collating documents for counsel briefing and court hearings.

Our rotational program is a unique offering within the Adelaide market where we aim to give aspiring lawyers the opportunity to rotate through three different practice groups over the course of a six-month program. This year, the practice groups in the program will be:

  • Commercial
  • Corporate
  • Employment Relations
  • Real Estate
  • Insolvency and Restructuring
  • Tax

We understand the importance of investing in our rising talent. In addition to your day-to-day role, you will join our team of Rising Lawyers engaged in a variety of interest groups including legal skills development, wellness and business development. The respective interest groups plan and deliver initiatives which support the development of lawyers in the early stages of their career as well as creating opportunities to build social connection and have a bit of fun! It’s a great way to get to know other lawyers in the same cohort as you nationally, whilst getting involved and valuably contributing to the development of the firm.

To succeed in this role you will ideally have:

  • Demonstrated academic excellence throughout your tertiary studies
  • Thorough research skills and excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to draft basic correspondence
  • An ability to demonstrate initiative and take a proactive approach to solving problems and building relationships
  • An ability to digest instructions quickly and quality produce results

Please note that you must be in your 3rd, 4th or 5th year of legal studies to be eligible for this role.

Our perks

We have a variety of employee benefits aimed at supporting our people including, but not limited to:

  • A variety of health and wellbeing initiatives including our Thrive@PiperAlderman Wellbeing Program.
  • Learning and development opportunities to support career growth including generous study support options.
  • An attractive Parental Leave policy offering up to 26 weeks paid leave.
  • Purchased annual leave options.
  • A range of fun office and team events all year round so we make sure we are connecting socially as often as possible!
