The Hospital:

The Royal Children’s Hospital’s (RCH) Vision is “A world where all kids thrive”.

RCH is a cornerstone member of the Melbourne Children’s Campus, partnering with Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, The University of Melbourne Department of Paediatrics and The Royal Children’s Hospital Foundation.

RCH has cared for the children and young people of Victoria for more than 150 years since it was founded in 1870. A full range of paediatrics and adolescent health services are provided plus tertiary and quaternary care for the most critically ill and medically complex patients in Victoria, Tasmania, southern NSW and other states around Australia and overseas. The Hospital has more than 6,000 staff, a budget of $850M, 12 wards and 350 beds. Annually, the RCH has 300,000+ Specialist Clinic appointments, 90,000+ Emergency Department presentations and 20,000 elective surgeries.

The Department

The Department of General Medicine is one of the largest departments at RCH made up of approximately 100 staff including senior medical, junior medical, nursing and non clinical staff.  It’s comprised by General Medicine and a number of subspecialty units including Clinical Pharmacology, Infectious Diseases, Rheumatology, Immigrant Health and Clinical Practice Guidelines.  We deliver clinical care in both the inpatient setting, looking after the vast majority of inpatient admissions at any given time, and the outpatient setting, running over 350 clinics every month across general paediatrics and our subspecialty areas.

The Role

General Medicine has a parental leave part time fixed term backfill vacancy available from 18th March 2024 – 2nd February 2025.

The General Medicine Senior Registrar is part of the broader team and is involved in clinical service delivery in the Outpatient setting, Short Stay Unit, as well as hospital leadership in the Evening

Medical Lead role, (see link for further information on the Evening Medical Lead role). 

The available position consists of:

Monday AM Dermatology clinic

Monday PM Continence clinic

Thursday AM General Medicine clinic

Thursday PM Evening Medical Lead shift (from 1.30pm)

In addition to the weekday clinics / shifts you will participate in the weekend SSU or Evening Medical Lead rosters (approximately 1 in 5) and the Junior Medical Staff weekend on call roster.  Weekend rostered shifts are paid in addition to the weekday rostered hours.

The successful applicant will be required to undergo a police and Working with Children’s Check.  In addition, all international Medical applicants will need to have passed IELTS test (results must indicate a score of 7 or above in all bands) in order to be successful.

Qualifications

  • MBBS
  • Registration with AHPRA and eligibility for medical registration within Victoria
  • Current enrolment in the RACP Advanced Training Program
