Comprehensive mental health, community health and dental services are delivered through various programs across the Barwon South West Region, including Torquay and Colac.

About the Department of Cardiothoracics

The Cardiothoracic Unit provides Cardiac and Thoracic surgery to the population of South Western Victoria.

The Unit has four registrar positions to assist four Consultant surgeons in delivering Cardiothoracic surgical care.

Surgery is conducted daily with opportunity to learn and assist with Coronary bypass surgery, Heart Valve surgery, Lung resections, Robotic Lung Surgery, Minimal access valve surgery and more.

The Unit has strong relations with Cardiology, Intensive Care, Respiratory Medicine and Oncology and also work as required with Emergency department presentations. There are frequent clinical meetings and activity in patient consultation and evaluation.

Teaching and supporting the career development of aspiring surgeons is a key platform of our work.

Technological advances include minimal access surgery, Robotic Thoracic surgery and endoscopic vein harvesting.
