Job description:

At Western Health, we take pride in our reputation for offering a seamless transition for Graduate Nurses from student to Registered Nurse. Our Mental Health Graduate Nurse Program is a structured and supportive initiative tailored to introduce graduate nurses to the dynamic, challenging, and immensely rewarding world of Mental Health care. Through a combination of clinical rotations, education sessions, and preceptorship, participants will develop a deeper understanding of nursing in the Mental Health and wellbeing context, and learn innovative strategies to support patients with dignity and compassion, supporting you to gain confidence in a variety of Mental Health clinical areas.

Our support structure includes Clinical Educators and Preceptors dedicated to your success. You'll benefit from an intensive orientation at the start of the program and continued learning with nine additional graduate study days throughout the year and frequent in-service and reflective sessions tailored specifically for graduates.

In our nurturing environment, each Graduate Nurse will complete two clinical rotations across our multiple sites. We empower our Graduate Nurses to prioritise their preferences, allowing them to tailor their program to suit their individual learning and career development goals.

Essential Criteria

Completed a Nursing Bachelor degree in the academic year January 2024 to June 2025.

To Apply

Applicants are asked to complete a three-step process: 

Step 1: Apply to PMCV (gnmp.pmcv.com.au) using the Computer Match system listing Western Health amongst your preferences. 

Step 2: Apply to Western Health using the online process. Each application must include: 

  • Cover letter (no more than one page).  

  • Concise curriculum vitae including a list of all undergraduate clinical placements (hospital, type of ward/experience and number of days). 

  • Nominate TWO referees (preferably clinical referees). 

  • A certified transcript of all results (key to results to be included). 

Complete copies of two recent acute clinical appraisals. Where two recent acute clinical appraisals are not available, one should be from a recent adult acute placement from second year (if you haven't had a placement in adult acute in third year). The other clinical appraisal can be from any other clinical placement. You need to submit your summative appraisals from each clinical placement (include cover page).

If you don't have an acute adult placement from second or third year you can use a sub-acute placement. For further information about clinical appraisal criteria visit the Western Health Graduate Nurse Program webpage and refer to 'Frequently Asked Questions' / Clinical Placements & Appraisals. 

PMCV will be collecting the references.
