About the Role
The position will suit senior trainees wishing to develop leadership, independent clinical skills, and gain exposure to safety & quality and organisational operations as a transition to consultant role. This position includes 2 x outpatient clinics weekly (with ability to nominate one as a specialty interest), overnight first on-call (with close consultant back-up), ward-based supervision and oversight, and mentorship for the JMS team. The Chief Paediatric Registrar will also be the organising registrar for the FRACP Clinical Examinations, working collaboratively with the consultant team. Please go to www.vprat.org to apply. Sunshine Hospital serves a large paediatric population. There is a 24 bed Children's Ward with a mixture of medical and surgical patients, admitting 5,000 children per year. There are approximately 30,000 Paediatric Emergency presentations per year, and General Paediatrics works closely with the team in the Paediatric Emergency department. There is a busy Paediatric Outpatient unit, and trainees get plenty of opportunity for exposure to outpatient medicine. There are also a number of paediatric subspecialty outpatients including cardiology, allergy, adolescent medicine, dermatology, mental health, neurology, and endocrinology. The position is accredited by the RACP for core Advanced Training in General Paediatrics (without perinatal).

Notable features of the department and position include:
Daily consultant ward rounds. Ability for the Chief Registrar to independently run ward rounds and take consultant call with supervisor support and mentorship.
Exposure to a wide range of inpatient and outpatient situations requiring independent decision making, with close consultant support and dedicated admin time.
Teaching and supervision of Junior Medical Staff seconded from Western Health and Royal Children's Hospital is an important role of the position
Involvement in safety and quality for paediatrics including M&M, procedure and guideline development, and parent information leaflets. Opportunity to be involved in other areas of departmental administration and governance.
Active teaching and research programs in place with expectation of contributions by the successful applicant. Simulation scenarios are regularly run on the ward. Participation in quarterly Regional education programs and full day group simulation programs is also available.
