This ongoing position requires a rights and distribution specialist with an understanding of the film, sound, broadcast, and/or digital publishing industries, and with experience in commercial distribution activities, and in research, contract and rights management particularly applied to audio-visual materials.
The successful candidate will be passionate about copyright and rights (particularly as they relate to audio-visual material) with a strong attention to detail, be highly organised and thrive in an information management environment. This includes an ability to confidently navigate and maintain a range of databases and online resources for research, sales and rights records management, together with experience in information management processes and systems.
We’re looking for a team player and someone with an interest in using their rights expertise and industry experience to widen the reach of this beloved national institution and to create new audiences for NFSA’s collections. The NFSA has established strong and professional relationships with external stakeholders in these industries so you will help to maintain these relationships.
The Collection Distribution Coordinator will, under general direction, undertake the following duties:
- Analyse and interpret complex film and television production agreements, releases and licences and assess rights to determine licensing requirements for the sales and marketing of NFSA collections materials to external stakeholders and for use by the NFSA.
- Undertake research of the NFSA’s collection, including viewing, identifying, and selecting content available for licensing and distribution to broadcasters, online platforms, and supply by the Access Team.
- Coordinate the selection and transfer of digital files and marketing materials for supply to external service providers, including ongoing liaison with internal and external stakeholders and ensuring delivery deadlines are met.
- Build and maintain positive professional relationships within the NFSA and with industry, rights holders and partner stakeholders and content providers.
- Support Team Lead, Collection Distribution in the areas of marketing and business development opportunities for the distribution of collection titles and the implementation of sales and distribution strategies.
Selection Criteria
In relation to the ‘Job Details’ listed above, concisely demonstrate your skills, experience and achievements against each of the following areas:
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of issues related to the distribution and promotion of audio-visual content, including the application of Australian copyright law to audio-visual collections; contractual, licensing and royalty arrangements; current and emerging markets for content delivery and audio-visual digital technology.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in high level research, rights management and distribution of audio-visual content including working with independent copyright holders, distributors, audio-visual archives, collection societies, government film funding bodies and /or broadcasters.
- Demonstrated excellent communication and negotiation skills in relation to rights management, licensing and the promotion and distribution of audio-visual content.
- Demonstrated high level administration and organisation skills in a contracts and/or rights management-setting, together with database management experience including working with Office 365 applications; Filemaker Pro, or a comparable database package; CRM software; and media asset management systems such as Mediaflex.
- Ability to problem solve with limited supervision, to take initiative and to exercise sound judgment in relation to audio-visual rights management and distribution activities.
