About the Role
Assessment Officers assist health workers by helping to identify child protection risks and plan initial actions to take in response. Assessment Officers also appraise if a report to the Child Protection Helpline is warranted, help to plan extra services and interventions, exchange information with health workers and communicate with other agencies. The Aboriginal Assessment Officer is also a point of contact for enquiries and reports about Aboriginal families and to support the CWU in providing a culturally appropriate advice.

Where you'll be working
The Child Wellbeing Unit (CWU) is a telephone consultation service for health workers which specialises in child protection and wellbeing concerns. The CWU support and enhance how Health Workers actively respond to child safety, welfare or wellbeing concerns.

The Northern Health CWU takes calls from four different Local Health Districts between 8.30am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday. 
Our friendly unit is staffed by 7 full time Assessment Officers and a full time Administration Officer and is located at Wallsend.

You are an empathetic individual who is confident in assessing child protection risks and providing expert advice. You enjoy working as a part of a team and collaborating with other teams and services and are highly capable of managing competing priorities in a sometimes-demanding environment.
