About the role:

This position relates to Section 50(d) of the Equal Employment Opportunity Act 1984 (WA), where Aboriginality is considered a genuine occupational qualification for this position.

In this role you will partner with the business to strengthen Aboriginal Community Engagement and advocacy amongst internal and external stakeholders to maintain and enhance our reputation and support the delivery of infrastructure projects and programs of work within the Aboriginal Communities Water Services (ACWS) program.

What the role will involve:

  • Undertake strategic situation analysis in planning and delivering Community Engagement strategies, activities, and resources for the Aboriginal Communities Water Services program.
  • Provide specialist advice to ensure appropriate quality Community Engagement resources are developed and available.
  • Mentor and manage others in the development, implementation and ongoing management of tailored Community Engagement plans within budget and timeframe.
  • Keep up to date on current industry trends, developments, and best practices for implementation into Community Engagement processes and methodologies.
  • Identify contentious issues and participate in the provision of briefings and Community Engagement advice and recommendations on behalf of the ACWS program.
  • Manage and maintain customer and stakeholder interactions through relevant databases and reporting systems.
  • Engage with Aboriginal communities and Traditional Owner groups as key stakeholders to inform our strategic development and management.
  • Lead events including the associated logistics, internal and external stakeholder management.
  • Provide support on projects where Aboriginal engagement forms part of the key deliverables.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders.

Key skills and experience:

  • This position relates to Section 50(d) of the Equal Employment Opportunity Act 1984 (WA), where Aboriginality is considered a genuine occupational qualification for this position.
  • Degree level qualification in communications, public relations, or related discipline is essential.
  • International Association of Public Participation (IAP2) Certificate in Engagement is desirable.
  • Substantial experience in Aboriginal Community Engagement, stakeholder and issues management including developing and implementing Community Engagement strategies.
  • Considerable experience in positions that require deep knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal cultural beliefs, attitudes, and protocols.
  • Highly proficient in the use of stakeholder/relationship management applications, databases, and information systems.
  • Highly developed communication, interpersonal, negotiation and presentation skills.
  • Highly developed conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly developed organisational and project management skills.
  • Ability to travel to remote and regional areas often.
  • Current unrestricted WA Drivers Licence.
