Remuneration: AHP1 ($67,466 - $82,359 per annum + 11% Super)

The Department for Child Protection is seeking an Aboriginal Family Practitioner to join the Port Lincoln office on a full-time term basis.

The role is responsible for:

  • Developing and supporting referrals for culturally appropriate interventions that foster strengthening of families and the safety and wellbeing of Aboriginal children and young people.
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of a holistic culturally based service that provides specialised and innovative services.
  • Monitoring the problem solving and coping capacities of individuals and assisting in ensuring that Aboriginal families are enhanced through the provision of respectful consultation processes.
  • Supporting families to connect with community based services which can address their needs.

About You
We are looking for a confident individual with the ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with people both within government, non-government sector and community to promote positive outcomes for Aboriginal children and families.

To be successful you will have knowledge of child development, counselling, crisis intervention, and working in a statutory environment or community.

You will also have demonstrated experience in problem solving and developing workable solutions.

About the Business
The Department for Child Protection (DCP) plays a key role in the protection of children, young people and their families within South Australia. The department provides support to vulnerable children and young people to be safe, strong and connected.

The Region
Port Lincoln is located 647 km from Adelaide and takes approximately 7 hours to drive. Port Lincoln is situated on Boston Bay, one of the largest protected natural harbours in the world three times the size of Sydney Harbour.

The Port Lincoln office is situated on the township foreshore within the metro precinct and employs approximately 20 people. As a member of this team you will work with other professionals to deliver services to Port Lincoln Community. As a member of this team, you will also work with and develop strong partnerships with other internal and external partners, many of which will be located within the community.

Special Conditions
Essential qualifications: A degree level qualification in Social Work which gives eligibility for full membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.

Persons of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, who have the appropriate background and skills but do not have the essential qualification, may apply for and be engaged/assigned to the role of Social Worker and will be entitled to apply for any Allied Health Professional roles requiring a qualification in Social Work within the Department for Child Protection (DCP).
