About the role
In this role, the Aboriginal Health Worker will provide flexible, holistic and culturally sensitive services to Aboriginal clients to achieve better health and social outcomes for Aboriginal people. This position will specifically work with clinical staff of Drug Health Services to improve access to treatment for Aboriginal people with drug and alcohol issues. It will include needle distribution, patient advocacy, participation in assessment, practical assistance & referral and follow-up for Aboriginal patients of the service and liaising with a range of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal health and welfare service providers.

- This is an identified Aboriginal position. Applicants for this position must be of Aboriginal descent, identify as being Aboriginal and be accepted in the community as such. An applicant’s race is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under Section 14(d) of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.
- Hold or aspire to hold, a minimum certificate III qualification in Aboriginal Primary care or a minimum certificate III health qualification in drug and alcohol.
- Experience working with Aboriginal communities and demonstrated awareness of cross-cultural issues.
- A current NSW Driver's Licence (P2 acceptable).

About working for SLHD
This is a Category A position. To be employed by NSW Health you are required to provide evidence of vaccination to comply with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening & Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy .
All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course (2 doses) of a Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine (except for the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine which is approved by the TGA as a single dose primary course). New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW. A NSW Health agency may require further information about the medical contraindication (including but not limited to an Immunisation Medical Exemption form – IM011 form).
Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.
