To ensure the ongoing provision of the highest standards of care to Mothers, babies, children and their family (clients of the service) through the provision of clinical services and health education, in particular primary health care to clients of the South West Aboriginal Medical Service with the aim of improving health outcomes for Aboriginal people of the area.
SWAMS Aboriginal Health Workers will provide primary health care services to clients in the clinic and in the community as required.
Specific requirements of this position include but are not limited to;
Essential Criteria
• Current Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Practice.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal people.
• Ability to form and maintain empathetic and caring relationships with Aboriginal Women and their families
• A demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the health and social issues affecting Aboriginal Women and babies
• Experience, skills, and knowledge in multidisciplinary teamwork and conflict management.
• Sound written and oral communication skills.
• Demonstrated organisational and time management skills along with an ability to adapt to changing needs.
• Knowledge and experience in the provision of health promotion programs.
• Community support to undertake this role.
• Ability to take responsibility to use workplace opportunities for learning
• Knowledge and understanding of support agencies and resources available to Aboriginal women and their families in SWAMS catchment area
Desirable Criteria
• Experience and interest in child and family health
• Current Apply First Aid certificate
• Knowledge and expertise in the use of Communicare or similar clinical database system.
• Current Immunisation qualification
All candidates must have a current WA Driver’s License and will be required to undertake or have a Current Police Clearance or NDIS Worker Screening check prior to employment.
The preferred candidate will also be required to provide a clear drug and alcohol screen prior to offer of employment.
